Zenless Zone Zero puts all of its characters into a variety of categories that define their fighting styles and types, which makes it so every character’s role doesn’t need to be explained.
Indeed, you can just learn what all the icons mean and understand what a character does at a quick glance. This ranges from their basic roles, such as who’s a Support unit and who’s an Attack unit. But, it also encompasses other things, such as what Elemental Damage they deal and what Attack Types they have.
In this guide, we’ll explain everything there is to know about all fighting types and styles in ZZZ!
All Fighting Types & Styles in Zenless Zone Zero Explained
Broadly speaking, every character in Zenless Zone Zero has two different things defining their fighting style: Specialty and Element. Additionally, their weapon of choice will define their Attack Type as well. The combination of all of them gives you a general idea of what each character plays like, though they’re very broad categories and some characters are… quirkier than others, to say the least.
Nonetheless, understanding the basics of each of these categories is essential in this game. So, let’s take a look at all of them and what they mean!
Specialty Types
Attack – These are your DPS characters, focusing primarily on dishing out damage and beating foes up. They have much higher damage than any other Specialty and excel at ending battles quickly.
Stun – Another offensive Specialty, though less focused on direct damage. Instead, Stun Agents focus on increasing the Daze gauge on enemies to Stun them. This prevents them from defending themselves for a period of time and allows the rest of your party to dish out damage safely.
Anomaly – A supportive Specialty focused on applying debuffs and status effects known as Anomalies. They have an innately higher chance to apply Elemental Anomalies, making it easy for them to weaken foes.
Support – Agents with this Specialty focus purely on aiding the other Agents in your party via buffs. They aren’t strong fighters themselves, but they do usually have long-range weapons that allow them to deal damage from a safe distance.
Defense – Your tanks, basically. Agents with this Specialty have much higher defenses than others, allowing them to take damage and remain relatively unscathed. They’re usually slower and rely on counter-attacking for fighting.
Elemental Types
Physical – The most basic damage type. It can inflict the Assault Anomaly, which interrupts enemies and deals high Physical damage. It can also inflict Armor Break, which reduces the enemy’s Physical Damage Resistance for a time.
Electric – Fry your foes with electricity! Capable of inflicting Shock, which deals Electric damage over time and interrupts enemies. It’s particularly strong against Robotic enemies, as they are unable to move at all while afflicted with Shock.
Ether – A magical damage type that can apply the Corruption Anomaly, which deals Ether damage over time. Corruption can interrupt Energy-type enemies, as well.
Fire – Set your enemies ablaze, inflicting the Burn Anomaly. Burn deals damage over time and also makes Organic enemies unable to move.
Ice – The cold will definitely bother your enemies if you use Ice. This element can apply Frostbite, which decreases Ice Damage Resistance on enemies. Additionally, enough Ice build-up can Freeze enemies, stunning them for a short amount of time and making your next attack deal extra Ice damage.
Attack Types
Slash – Usually reserved for characters that use weapons like swords and knives. It deals extra damage to Ethereal enemies and usually has high attack speed.
Strike – Most common for heavy-hitting attacks like punches, hammers, and other blunt weapons. Doesn’t have a consistent attack speed across characters, but it’s usually slower than Slash. Strong against Mechanical-type foes.
Pierce – Mostly found on characters that use guns, drills, and other thrusting weapons. Usually has a pretty fast attack speed and is strong against Humanoid enemies.
