Like other ARPGs, Zenless Zone Zero also has a team system. You can take three agents into the battle and switch between them during the fight as you like. To get the most of this mechanism, it is important you build teams that synergize well.

Guide on Team Building (+ Tips)

Let us first talk about how teams work in this game. You select 3 agents for a mission. You can change between them by using the switch button. The switch will occur in the order you have selected the agents.

For example, if you select Lycaon as your 1st agent, Grace as your 2nd agent and Ellen as your 3rd agent. Then you will start the match with Lycaon and your first switch will be of Grace. And the next switch will be Ellen and then finally back to Lycaon after that. The switching will occur in this cycle.

But the chain attack mechanism of this game bypasses this cycle. With chain attack, you can select either agent on your team and swap out with them. So when deciding on team combos, it is important you keep the order of your team in mind.

Team Synergies

Your agents can get bonuses when they are paired with other agents that have the same attribute or faction. There are 5 attributes: Fire, Ice, Electric, Physical and Ether. And there are currently 7 factions and they are:

  • Victoria Housekeeping Co.
  • Criminal Investigation Special Response Team
  • Belobog Heavy Industries
  • Cunning Hares
  • Section 6
  • Sons of Calydon
  • Obol Squad

So when creating a team, try to match up the attributes or factions of the agents. When you do it right, you will see a smile emoji besides the agent name in the agent selection screen. A non-smile emoji indicates that the agent is not getting the synergy bonus. An example of this is shown in the image below.

Character Selection
Grace and Anby have the same attribute (Electric). Corin has a different attribute and faction from Grace and Anby.

To learn what bonuses your agents are receiving, click on the smile icon located on the top right side of your screen when selecting agents.

Best Team Builds

There are two main types of team builds you will be looking for in the game. They are mentioned below:

Daze / Stun Team

Stun Build - Zenless Zone Zero - Teambuilding Tips & Mini-Guide

Enemies in the game have a daze meter which is present below their health bars. Attacking the enemy fills up this bar and when it reaches 100%, the enemy is stunned. Stunned enemies take more damage and can not move.

For building a team that revolves around the daze mechanism, you will be looking for agents with high impact stat or the stun specialty. Agents like Lycaon, Koleda and Anby are perfect for this role. These agents can fill up the daze meter much faster and also deal more damage to stunned enemies.

Once you stun an enemy, you can swap out with another agent and dish out high amounts of damage. Lycaon is currently the best stun agent and if you pair him with Ellen, you will be able to easily crush most enemies.

Anomaly Team

Anomaly Build - Zenless Zone Zero - Teambuilding Tips & Mini-Guide

When you deal attribute damage to an enemy, you build up anomaly for that attribute. And once the build up is complete, that enemy will get inflicted with that anomaly. There are 6 anomaly effects which are mentioned below:

  • Burn (Fire attribute anomaly)
  • Shock (Electric attribute anomaly)
  • Shatter (Ice attribute anomaly)
  • Assault (Physical attribute anomaly)
  • Corruption (Ether attribute anomaly)
  • Disorder (when you apply an attribute anomaly on an enemy that is already inflicted with another attribute anomaly).

For this type of team, you want to look for agents that have high Anomaly Proficiency (damage dealt by attribute anomalies) and Anomaly Mastery (the rate at which attribute anomaly is inflicted).

Agents like Grace, Rina or Soukaku are pretty good for building up anomalies fast. Grace specializes in Anomaly so she is by far the best agent to have on a team that is designed to take advantage of this anomaly mechanism.
