The Phoneix is the first boss that you encounter in the 4th chapter of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Unlike most bosses in this game, Phoenix can not be damaged for the majority of the fight.
The boss utilizes summons and you will have to kill them to get to Phoenix. The boss is pretty challenging, but the fight can be made much easier if you take the right approach. We will be looking at the best approach you can take to defeat Phoenix.
How to Defeat Phoenix
Being immune and having summons makes this fight quite difficult. What makes it even worse though is the second stage of the fight.
Once the Phoenix is at half health, it will perform a rebirth move and damage all the members of your party. Other than damaging you, the Phoenix will also summon 3 minions instead of the previous 1 to fight alongside it.
All this means the best approach is to try and defeat the Phoenix before it performs the Rebirth move. By choosing the right set of characters and playing the fight well, you can make quick work of the Phoenix.
Ideal Party Members
The ideal party to take on the Phoenix is
Cloud
Tifa
Aerith
This will give you a good balance in your party in terms of defense and damage.
Cloud is your standard damage dealer that can deal tons of damage. For defense, you will have Aerith, who can also help you deal ranged damage. Lastly, Tifa can help you Pressure the Phoenix.
Pressure in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will stagger bosses. You can do very high amounts of damage to bosses when they are staggered, as they will not be able to do anything.
Once you have the members selected, it’s time to take on the boss. As soon as the fight starts, you will need to take on the minions that Phoenix will summon.
Killing the various summons is not that difficult, as they are summoned 1 at a time. During this time, you should try to charge up your various attacks, like Tifa’s Unbridled Strength ability. Make sure you don’t use them though, as you will need these attacks to damage the Phoenix.
Once the minions are taken care of, you will be able to damage Phoenix. Utilize Tifa’s Unbridled Strength to maximize the Pressure you build up. You can try to fully kill Phoenix during this stage, but that is very hard to do.
Instead, you want to deal the most damage you can, but stop before the boss gets to half health. This is important because Phoenix will not perform Rebirth before it reaches half health.
After a short time, Phoenix will again become invulnerable and start summoning the minions 1 at a time. Kill all the minions again, but this time when hitting Phoenix, make sure you take away all of its health.
