Smalland: Survive the Wilds lets players tame a variety of creatures and ride them as a mount. This greatly speeds up traversal, allowing you to explore more of the world in less time.
Currently, there are two known mounts available: grasshoppers and geckos. So if you ever wished to ride a gigantic gecko, you’ve got your wish!
That said, here’s how you can get your very own mount.
Getting Your Own Mount in Smalland: Survive the Wilds
Getting a mount requires a fair bit of work and prerequisites, so buckle up because you will need to put in some effort. You will need lots of materials for the different things you will have to craft.
First off, you will need to complete Skadi’s quest to kill a Rhino Beetle. This is one of the game’s many bosses, and it’s quite a tough one.
This will unlock the Gecko Treat recipe which you can use to tame a gecko. However, you will need a cauldron to prepare it.
For now, you will need to craft a Workbench and a Stonecutter. Gather wood and bring it to the Stonecutter to turn it into Refined Wood.
After that, build a Cauldron using 7 pieces of Refined Wood and 10 Stones. This crafting station will allow you to make Gecko and Grasshopper treats! Make the treat for the mount you wish to get.
The Grasshopper is a very versatile mount. As you might imagine, it can hop great distances which makes it perfect when you need verticality or need to cross gaps.
Geckos, on the other hand, can’t jump at all. To make up for it, they can walk faster than grasshoppers and are more resilient.
Once you’ve picked your mount and made its treat, you will need to explore the world until you find a wild grasshopper or gecko.
Once you find one, attack it and lower its health below 50%. Once you’ve dealt enough damage, a prompt will appear which will let you offer it the treat you made.
You can then mount it right after it eats the treat! If you dismount the creature, it will follow you to the best of its ability.
Unfortunately, if your mount dies, you will need to get a new one using the same process. But at least you know now how to get a mount anytime!
