The release of the Rust+ companion app a few years back allowed Rust players to monitor their base and even their team even when not playing the game. It features a handful of functionalities that allows you to manage various stuff even while you’re on your phone.

One of these features is the ability to set up, activate, and deactivate various devices inside your base. This is particularly useful, as you can set up alarms that will trigger each time your base is under attack. However, you need to configure several things first for this to function.

This nifty feature allows you to connect smart switches and alarms to your electrical devices in-game. Then, you can connect them to the Rust+ companion app to notify you of any events within your base. You also have the option to turn them on or off anytime you want.

To start, you want to download and install the Rust+ companion app on your device. Luckily, Facepunch Studios has released the app to both Android and iOS, so you can use it regardless of the platform you’re using.

After installing the app, the next step is to sign in to the app via your Steam account. To start pairing, you’ll want to get inside the game first. Enter the server you’re playing in, and then open your menu.

To the left side, you should see the Rust+ option. All you need to do is click on it, and once a new window appears, click on the Pair with Server button.

Shortly after that, you should then receive a notification on the app. Open the notification and then press the Pair Server button. Now that the setup process is done, let’s now move on to how you can set up a raid alarm for your base.

Setting Up a Simple Raid Alarm

To set up a raid alarm, you’ll need either a solar panel or a wind turbine to act as your power source. This will provide you with an uninterruptible power source that can keep your alarm on 24/7. While you can use a small generator to supply power to your alarm, it will need fuel to continue running.

The next important thing you should prepare is a battery where you’ll be storing energy from your power source. You can actually do this without a battery, but since your power source is exposed outside, it will cut off power whenever someone destroys it.

The third you’ll need is a branching power to allocate just enough power from the battery to your alarm. Since both the sensor and alarm only require 1 power each, just allocate 2 power toward the two devices.

After that, the final items you’ll need are the HBHF sensor and the smart alarm.

Then, you just need to connect the power source to your battery, and then connect the battery to the branching power. After that, allocate enough power to both the sensor and the smart alarm.

Lastly, connect the sensor to the electrical branch and its other cable to the alarm. With your server already connected to the Rust+ app, press E on the smart alarm, and then choose the Pair option.

In your app, simply press the Pair option for the smart alarm once it shows up. And there you have it! You now have a raid alarm that will notify you on your phone. You also have the option to customize the name of the alarm and the message that you’ll get as a notification once your base is raided.

A Few Important Things to Consider

The HBHF sensor is an electrical device that’s capable of detecting motion, heartbeat, and footsteps within its 20-meter radius. Aside from that, it can also detect the number of players that are within its radius.

However, in order to do so, it has to be in a full line of sight, meaning you have to place it outside of your base.

The important thing to note here is that the sensor should be able to see the player within its line of sight. If not, then it won’t activate at all and you won’t get any alarm on your phone. You also have the option to exclude detection for your teammates and other authorized players. This way, you won’t get any false alarms on your mobile app.

An alternative to the HBHF sensor is the laser detector which, as the name implies, uses a laser to detect movement around your base. However, it can be pretty limited as it only works on a straight line and will only activate once a player passes through it.

Raiders will also be able to see the laser pretty easily, though there can be certain situations where it can work to your advantage.
