Figuring out which W-Engine is the best for your Agents is crucial for making the most of them in Zenless Zone Zero 1.0, and a tier list is always the easiest way to compare these things.
There are dozens of W-Engines in the game across the three rarities, so it’s not easy figuring out which ones are really worth. Though, generally speaking, B-Rank W-Engines can be simply ignored the moment you get any S-Rank or A-Rank. They get totally outshined by their rarer counterparts, sadly…
So, in our tier list, we’ll rank all of the S-Rank and A-Rank W-Engines from best to worst for each Specialty!
Best W-Engine Tier List for Zenless Zone Zero 1.0
Attack W-Engines
Top Tier – Deep Sea Visitor
High Tier – The Brimstone, Steel Cushion
Medium Tier – Drill Rig – Red Axis, Starlight Engine Replica, Housekeeper, Cannon Rotor
Low Tier – Starlight Engine, Street Superstar
Starting off with the Attack W-Engines, we can already see a trend that will follow suit for all of the W-Engine tier lists. The best W-Engines are signature W-Engines that work well for strong characters. This is why the Deep Sea Visitor places so high: it’s the signature W-Engine for Ellen. As we covered in our article about meta team compositions, Ellen is widely considered the strongest Agent in the game!
This is also why it’s followed up by Soldier 11’s The Brimstone and Nekomata’s Steel Cushion. They’re two of the strongest Attack Agents currently in the game, second only to Ellen.
This is also why most of the Medium Tier is made out of the remaining signature W-Engines and the Low Tier is mostly reserved for the generic A-Rank W-Engines. The one exception is the Cannon Rotor in Medium Tier, which is a solid choice for most Attack Agents despite being generic.
Anomaly W-Engines
Top Tier – Fusion Compiler, Roaring Ride
High Tier – Weeping Gemini
Medium Tier – Rainforest Gourmet, Electro-Lip Gloss
There are very few Anomaly W-Engines currently, sincethere are only two Anomaly Agents currently: Grace and Piper Wheel. Both of them do best with their respective signature W-Engines, as usual, which is why they’re both in the top tier currently.
For the High Tier we have the Weeping Gemini. It allows Anomaly Agents to snowball their foes by increasing their Anomaly Proficiency whenever anyone in the team procs any Anomaly. It’s a pretty strong choice that should work well for any current and future Anomaly Agents.
As for the Medium Tier, we have the remaining generic A-Rank W-Engines. They’re pretty solid choices if you don’t have the signature W-Engine for your Anomaly Agent of choice, but nothing too special.
Defense W-Engines
Top Tier – Big Cylinder
High Tier – Spring Embrace
Medium Tier – Bunny Band, Original Transmorpher
Ben Bigger is the only Defense Agent in the game right now. As usual, he does best when paired with his signature W-Engine, Big Cylinder. We’re keeping with the trend of signature W-Engines being the best possible choices!
Spring Embrace earns its spot in the High Tier over the other generic A-Ranks, though. It allows Ben (or any other future Defense Agent) to gain an Energy Regeneration Rate buff whenever they get attacked. Swapping out for another Agent will transfer the buff to the incoming Agent, too!
As for the other A-Ranks in the Medium Tier, it’s a bit hard to really gauge their usefulness. They’re not particularly good for Ben, but they might climb the ranks in the future once more Defense Agents join the roster.
Stun W-Engines
Top Tier – The Restrained
High Tier – Hellfire Gears
Medium Tier – Demara Battery Mark II, Six Shooter
Low Tier – Precious Fossilized Core, Steam Oven
Deep Sea Visitor is the best Attack W-Engine due to being for the best Attack character, right? Well, The Restrained follows that same trend in Zenless Zone Zero 1.0. It’s the strongest Stun W-Engine primarily because it’s the signature choice for Lycaon, who also happens to be the strongest Stun Agent currently.
Similarly, the Hellfire Gears in the High Tier are in second place due to being the signature choice for Koleda. That said, they’re also a pretty solid choice overall for every Stun Agent, not just Koleda.
In Medium Tier we have Anby’s signature W-Engine, the Demara Battery Mark II as well as the generic Six Shooter. Anby’s signature is interesting because it’s fantastic for her but can’t be used by any other Stun Agent currently in the game due to its Electric Element. Anby is the only Electric Stun Agent currently! The Six Shooter, on the other hand, is just a solid choice that every Stun Agent can use.
The Low Tier in this case is simply reserved for the remaining generic A-Ranks which are frankly not very good. Their effects are somewhat niche and small, making them only worth using if you have nothing else.
Support W-Engines
Top Tier – Weeping Cradle
High Tier – Kaboom the Cannon, Bashful Demon
Medium Tier – The Vault
Low Tier – Unfettered Game Ball, Slice of Time
The top tier support Rina deserves the top tier W-Engine, Weeping Cradle, which is her signature. It provides party-wide damage buffs and also increases Energy Regen for the equipper, making it extremely useful for every Support Agent.
Following up is Kaboom the Cannon, which is Lucy’s signature W-Engine but can be used by every Support Agent. It provides a solid but relatively low damage buff to the entire party. Bashful Demon, on the other hand, is Soukaku’s signature W-Engine and is a great choice for her. However, there are no other Ice Support Agents currently so she’s the only one who gets to make good use of it.
The other notable W-Engine here is Nicole’s signature, The Vault. It basically allows her to mark targets with her Chain Attacks, EX Special Attacks, and Ultimate. Any enemies hit by these attacks will take much higher damage and the equipper will also get an Energy Regen buff!
Lastly, the Low Tier Support W-Engines are fairly niche compared to everything else. They might work for certain setups, but they’re outshined by everything else.
