If you wish to tank in Throne & Liberty, our helpful tier list should help you pick the best weapon combination for both PvP and PvE.
To tank, you will need to pick up the Sword & Shield as your main weapon. After all, it’s the only weapon type which truly focuses on tanking. However, which weapon you choose as your secondary weapon will greatly impact how effective your tanking ability is.
In this tier list, we’ll rank all Sword & Shield weapon combinations from best to worst based on their ability to play the role of a tank!
Best PVP/PVE Tank Weapon Combination | Throne & Liberty Tier List
Sword & Shield + Wand & Tome
If you want to be a pure tank, this is by far the best weapon combination. The Wand & Tome will give you access to powerful heals and buffs. You can use these either to sustain yourself or to bolster your party. Either way, one thing’s certain: you’ll be nearly impossible to take down.
Even better, you’ll also have solid burst damage potential with the right gear, so you can cover all the bases. This isn’t just the best weapon combination for a tank in Throne & Liberty… it might be the best weapon combination in general!
Sword & Shield + Greatsword
One of the most straightforward weapon combinations in the whole game! Sword & Shield gives you great defense, while the Greatsword gives you access to extremely high damage. Whether you’re in PvP or PvE, the Greatsword will give you access to fantastic Crowd Control and Stun options which work extremely well with the tank playstyle.
What’s more, you can buff your entire party damage’s output with Blood Devotion, which greatly shines in PvE particularly. Plus, you get healing thanks to skills like DaVinci’s Courage. Your only issue is your lack of range, but nothing’s ever perfect!
Sword & Shield + Daggers
This is primarily a utility build above everything else. Your damage is pretty lacking compared to other tank builds. On the upside, you do get access to fantastic Crowd Control, Buffs, and Debuffs. This weapon combination shines the most when you’re doing PvE. The Daggers’ mobility and the many status effects they can apply will allow you to clear mobs with ease.
Make good use of Provoking Roar to keep foes aggroed on you and keep inflicting them with effects and Debuffs!
Sword & Shield + Longbow
The Longbow is a bit of an odd choice when you wish to tank. On one hand, it doesn’t really synergize too well with the intended tank playstyle for the Sword & Shield. On the other, however, the Longbow allows you to increase your Endurance more than most other weapons. Plus, you get access to some fantastic Passive Skills for tanking, such as Devoted Shield.
You’ll also have solid versatility since you can do well in both melee and ranged combat. This combination shines the most in PvE, especially when you’re playing solo.
Sword & Shield + Staff
This is the more aggressive cousin of the Sword & Shield + Wand & Tome weapon combination. You essentially give up on your ability to heal and Buff, but gain the ability to deal extremely high damage. This also makes you more versatile, as you can deal both physical and magic damage at the same time.
The big downside is that this greatly lowers your ability to tank effectively, however. We can’t recommend this at all if you wish to tank, but it’s a solid build for killing mobs in PvE!
Sword & Shield + Crossbow
Similar to the Sword & Shield + Staff combination, this is at the bottom of the list simply because it doesn’t really work for tanking. This is a purely offensive build, primarily focused on strong single-target DPS. You get fantastic ranged and melee options for dishing out damage!
However, you would be an extremely weak tank. The Crossbow doesn’t really provide any particularly useful defensive options to the Sword & Shield. You’d also have poor self-sustain, since you don’t have any healing. Trying to tank with this weapon combination in Throne & Liberty would be quite ineffective, whether you’re playing PvP or PvE!
