To complete “Samin’s Special Research Report” quest in Monster Hunter Wilds, find the location of a Sandstar and capture it for Samin.

The Sandstar is a very special little critter. It’s a blue rodent that roams the desert and also emits a blue glow with its fur. That’s how it got the name “Sandstar,” it seems! However, finding and capturing one isn’t easy. They like to flee the moment they notice hunters, so you’ll need to prepare properly.

In this guide, we’ll tell you how to easily find and catch Sandstars for Samin’s quest line.

Capture a Sandstar Location | Samin’s Special Research Report Quest

“Samin’s Special Research Report” is the last of the Endemic Life quests in Monster Hunter Wilds, requiring you to find a Sandstar in a specific location and capture it. You can start this quest by talking to Samin at the Windward Plains Base Camp right after completing “Dareel’s Special Research Report.”

Thankfully, you can find the Sandstar in the same Windward Plains area. Right after talking to Samin, go to the Oasis near Area 13. It’s a nice throwback, considering the first quest in this quest line had you catching a Tracktail Lizard in that same spot!

Now, there are two things to keep in mind. First is that Sandstars only spawn at night. If it’s not currently nighttime, you can Rest at a Camp to change time for 300 Guild Points.

The second thing to keep in mind is that Sandstars will flee the moment they notice you. To stop them, bring Screamer Pods. If you don’t have any, you can grab them from the flying Baunos creatures near the Oasis.

Once you’re ready, explore near the Area 13 Oasis at nighttime and look for a Sandstar. It looks like a fluffy blue rodent and is most notorious for its blue glow. The image above shows you an example of what they look like.

When you spot the Sandstar, fire a Screamer Pod near it to stun it. Then quickly rush in and capture it with your Capture Net, just like all the other little critters you captured previously during this quest line. Now you just need to return to Samin to finish the quest!

That’s all you need to know to find the location of a Sandstar and how to capture it as part of “Samin’s Special Research Report” in Monster Hunter Wilds. This concludes the Endemic Life quest line, as well.
