Ascension is a core mechanic in Honkai: Star Rail. It basically allows you to ascend your characters so they can go past their maximum level cap.

Basically, your characters will reach a certain level where they can no longer level up past that. Once that happens, you will need to ascend them so they can level up even further.

However, you will need ascension materials in order to do so. In this guide, we’ll teach you where you can obtain those materials.

You will be able to ascend your characters a total of six times. The first will be at level 20 while the last one is at level 180.

Aside from ascension materials, you also need to prepare enough Credits as well as reach the required Trailblaze level.

You should also keep in mind that each character will have a different requirement when it comes to ascension materials. The first ascension will require just a few materials, but future ascensions will become progressively expensive.

Luckily, there are a few ways to obtain ascension materials in the game. One of the most common methods is to defeat enemies, complete missions, and enter the Simulated Universe.

These activities will reward you with low-rarity materials that you can use to ascend your characters. Eventually, you will need high-rarity materials for ascensions.

In this case, you’ll have to enter Stagnant Shadows and defeat strong enemies to do so.

You can also use the Omni-Synthesizer to convert a certain material to another. This is especially useful if you’re trying to ascend a certain character but are lacking the materials to do so.

For example, if you want to ascend Tingyun but don’t have enough Immortal Scionettes, you can synthesize your extra materials, like the Thief’s Instinct to convert them into Immortal Scionettes.

Another useful method you can use is to purchase them from the Embers Exchange. However, you will need Undying Embers to buy them.

However, we don’t really recommend this method as Undying Embers is a premium currency. You’re better off spending it on a Star Rail Pass or Star Rail Special Pass.
