Best Biome for Finding Cobalt Ore in Hytale
Cobalt ore loves the cold. You’ll need to head to an icy region with snow and ice caps. Even areas with just small patches of snow seem to work, but the safest bet is the Whisper Frost Frontiers area (eg. Frostmarch Tundra).
If you see snow everywhere and your map highlights this biome, congratulations, you’re in the right place. Just remember, this isn’t a stroll in the park; the region is a bit more dangerous, so bring your wits (and maybe some snacks).

Once you’re in the snowy biome, cobalt ore becomes relatively easy to spot. It stands out against the icy landscape and can be harvested with any pickaxe, even a crude one.
I found myself staring at clusters of cobalt all around, some even mixed with gold in the same area. After just a short session, I had already collected 51 cobalt. Either I got insanely lucky, or this biome is naturally packed with it.
On the map, I noticed that the best spots are mountains that are still dirt-covered at the base but have snow caps on top (especially since you can reach them early-on, as the snowy regions are more dangerous). These peaks seem to hide the most abundant veins.
If you prefer a bit more risk for reward, you can also explore caves in the region. They’re tighter and more dangerous, but cobalt is there too, sometimes perched on the ceiling or tucked into deeper nooks. Mining it in caves is like any other mining adventure in Hytale: proceed carefully and keep your pickaxe ready.
How to Get Cobalt Ingots Once You’ve Collected Cobalt Ore
Once you’ve collected your cobalt, all that’s left is to take it back to your base and smelt it in a furnace. I brought back nearly 100 pieces of ore, and watching them turn into shiny cobalt ingots was incredibly satisfying.
These ingots are the foundation for crafting the full range of cobalt gear, including armor, weapons, and tools, basically everything you need to feel like a true adventurer and further progress the game’s content.
