Salt is one of the many materials you can find in Hytale, and it’s particularly important if you wish to cook meals.

That said, the ways to get it isn’t the most intuitive in this game. You don’t mine for it and you don’t really refine it from anything.

Fear not, though, because we’ll tell you what it is you actually need to do to get as much Salt as you want.

Where to Find Salt in Hytale

There are two main ways to get Salt in this game. Let’s start with a fairly simple one that only requires you to know about fishing. If you don’t know how fishing works in this game, we have a guide about it!

So, for this first method, you just need to set Fishing Traps made from your Farmer’s Workbench. Make them, place them on a body of water, and wait for fish to get caught in them.

Once the traps are full, walk up to them and collect the fish within. Sometimes, you’ll randomly get a Salt Block when harvesting the traps!

With Salt Blocks in your possession, you just need to use any Chef’s Stove to make them into Salt. It’s as simple as that! You get 5 Salt for every 1 Salt Block.

If you don’t have a Chef’s Stove yet, you can craft it at the standard Workbench. It requires 2 Copper Ingots, 5 Stones of any type, and 10 Tree Trunks of any type.

The second method is a bit simpler, but you’ll need to get Essences of Life for it. You can obtain them mostly via farming. Check out our farming guide, if you need more details.

When you have at least 20 Essences of Life, look for a Forgotten Temple Gateway landmark. Enter the portal there to visit the Forgotten Temple, which acts as a sort of hub area.

Then, look for the Rootling Merchant and talk to them. You can trade this merchant for Salt, giving you 3 Salt for every 20 Essences of Life. They do have a limited stock, though, but it resets every 3 days!

So, there you have it. That’s all you need to know to be able to get Salt in Hytale. Now you just need to get cooking with it.
