The Magic Dagger is one of the many unique weapons you can find in Terraria and is perfect for anyone with a magic build.
It functions similarly to the regular Throwing Knives, but it consumes mana instead of using up consumables. Infinite knife spam for you!
In this guide, we’ll tell you how to get the powerful Magic Dagger in Terraria.
How to get Magic Dagger in Terraria
So, do you want the good news or the bad news first?
Well, let’s start with the good news: the Magic Dagger doesn’t require any crafting! As such, you won’t need to go out of your way to hoard loads of materials.
Instead, you’ll just need to kill the right enemy for a chance to get it.
This brings us to the bad news: the Magic Dagger can only be obtained by killing Mimics. It has a 16.67% chance to drop from each mimic you kill.
Mimics are an enemy type that looks like a chest but is actually a hostile creature. These sneaky buggers will attack once you try to open them!
However, mimics are rare enemies that only spawn after you kill the Wall of Flesh boss and enter Hardmode.
There does exist an item that lets you spawn mimics called the Chest Statue as well, but any mimic spawned by it will only drop the Mimic Banner. You need to kill naturally spawning mimics!
Considering the randomness of mimics spawning and the random chance to get the Magic Dagger, your best bet is to just explore the world.
The more you explore, the more enemies you will encounter, thus the more chances you’ll encounter a mimic!
However, you should avoid the ice biome, as it has a unique mimic type that doesn’t hold the Magic Dagger.
The only other thing you can do is to get a Water Candle and drink Battle Potions. Both of these items increase enemy spawn rates, which should increase your chances of meeting mimics.
Increasing Enemy Spawn Rates
As previously mentioned, there are a pair of items that will drastically increase the amount of enemies that spawn: Water Candles and Battle Potions.
Water Candles can be made by bringing a Candle or Platinum Candle to a Crystal Ball that is submerged in water. Place it down and turn it on for an enemy spawn rate in the area!
Battle Potions are a consumable, on the other hand, and can be made by using a Placed Bottle or Alchemy Table. The recipe requires 1 Bottled Water, 1 Deathweed, and 1 Rotten Chunk or 1 Vertebra.
Consuming the potion will double the amount of enemies spawned around you for 7 minutes. Combine both items and you’ll vastly increase the enemy spawns, giving you more chances to find mimics!
Sadly, we can’t do much else for you than wish you the best of luck on your Magic Dagger hunt.
