Some of them provide added utility while others are designed to help you in combat. One good example of a combat-oriented ability is Lift and Slam.
It’s basically an ability that lets you lift objects, as well as enemies, or slam them into the ground. This can be quite useful in a lot of situations.
However, you need to unlock it first. Here’s how.

You will be able to obtain the Lift and Slam ability once you get to Chapter 4 of the game’s main storyline.
Specifically, you will receive a mission that tasks you with rescuing Zee from the Lucrehulk. This mission takes place in Generator Underbelly on Koboh.
Just keep following the quest objective until you reach the lower levels of Yurt Barracks. Here, you’ll come across two shielded turrets that will fire at you the moment they spot you.
Hide behind the structure in the middle, and a cutscene will then play. This cutscene will feature Cere Junda as well as your encounter with the stormtroopers.
It’s basically a flashback where Cere teaches Cal how to use the ability to take down the group of stormtroopers.
Right after the flashback cutscene finishes, you will then be able to unlock the Lift and Slam ability.
At this point, the game will teach you how to use it. You can then use it to take down the shielded turrets safely from a distance by using Slam.
After that, you then have to use your newly unlocked ability to Lift the door up ahead. This will then allow you to proceed to the rest of the quest.
