So, you’ll want to get a perfect tile alignment as much as possible. To achieve this, make sure that each side of your tile matches up with the adjacent side of the tile that’s placed right next to it. This means that if you have a river tile, it should connect to another river tile, and so on. As long as you can place a tile in a way that all sides match, you’ll be able to obtain a perfect bonus PLUS a free extra tile so you can keep going.
Aside from perfect tile placement, you should also make sure to complete any available quests. Doing so will grant you extra points as well as FIVE extra tiles.
