The only place where you can get onions is in the Forest of Valor. You have to unlock Goofy’s cart here first before you can have your onions.
Once you unlock and see Goofy’s cart in the middle of the Forest of Valor, you have to upgrade it to have access to the onions. If you upgrade once, you will be able to buy onions that cost 255 coins each. If you think of about it, it is quite pricey especially if you often need onion as an ingredient for meals or for your tasks.

In doing this, onion seeds will also be available in Goofy’s cart. You can purchase this with just 50 coins only. Since you already have the onion seeds, all you have to do is plant and let it grow on your farm. It will take 75 minutes before you can harvest it.
Buying the onion seeds instead of the onion itself is actually a more practical way of spending your coins. Plus, you can use your planting activity in spending time with other characters to increase your friendship level.
