Playing Dinkum can be quite slow especially when you reach the stage dealing with Old Contraptions. They are needed in crafting machines that will help your island life easier and better. This guide will walk you through how to find an old contraption.

How to Find An Old Contraption in Dinkum

Old Contraptions are needed to build a Quarry and craft vehicles, such as Tractor, Helicopter, Jet Ski, Lawn Mower, and Motorbike.

There 3 ways to get Old Contraption in Dinkum. These are:

  • Reward from a Quarry
  • Reward from an Investigation Request
  • Using a Metal Detector

Methods in Finding An Old Contraption

The first method in getting an Old Contraption is doing an Investigation Request. Some NPCs will ask you to investigate an area and there is a good chance you’ll find a satellite. Breaking it down with a pickaxe will yield Hot Batteries, Green Boards, and Old Contraptions.

The second method is from the Quarry. Every day, you will recover a single time from a Quarry and there will be a chance that a barrel will appear. The contents inside may have an Old Contraption.

The final and best method is using a Metal Detector along with a Metal Detecting License to locate Old Contraptions. You can get the detector from John for 7,000 Dinks and the license from Fletch using 500 Permit Points.

You will need to equip the Metal Detector and wait for a beeping sound. Once you hear beeps, you can uncover the spot using a shovel. You can find buried items more in areas close to the river.

While locating an old Contraption is realtively easy, keep in mind that all of the methods will take time.
