Stash tabs in Path of Exile 2 cost real money and the options are overwhelming if you are not sure what you actually need. Some of them are genuinely essential and will make your time in the game significantly smoother. Others are nice to have but far from urgent. And a handful are situational enough that most players will never need them at all.
Patch 0.5 added the new Fragment Stash Tab and improved the Augment Tab with five new subsections for Runes, Kalguuran Runes, Soul Cores, Idols, and Ancient Augments. The lineup has shifted a bit from where it was before. In this guide, I cover which tabs are actually worth buying in the current patch so you spend your points on the right things and hold off on the rest until you actually need them.
Stash Tabs Worth Getting
The first thing I would recommend doing before anything else is converting some of your normal tabs into Premium tabs and then upgrading those to Merchant tabs. Premium tabs allow you to list items for trade when you are online. Merchant tabs take it a step further by letting you list items for sale through in-game NPCs like Ange.
Players can then browse and buy your items even when you are completely offline. That is a significant quality of life upgrade over having to be online for every transaction. If you are planning to put any serious time into this game, then these are some of the most essential tabs to have sorted early on.
Currency Stash Tab
The Currency Stash Tab is one of the most valuable tabs you can invest in and the one most players prioritize picking up first. Standard stash slots stack most currency items in very small quantities which becomes a real problem the moment you start accumulating wealth in any meaningful volume.
The Currency Stash Tab solves this by increasing the storage limit significantly. It holds up to 5,000 of almost every currency type in a single designated slot which eliminates the constant juggling act of managing overflow across multiple regular tabs.
The layout is pre-labeled with dedicated slots for every major currency orb including Scrolls of Wisdom, Chaos Orbs and Exalted Orbs. This makes it immediately clear how much of each currency you have without having to dig through your stash to find out.
The Crafting Integration feature takes it a step further by including a central slot where you can place an item and apply your orbs directly from inside the tab itself. No more pulling currency into your regular inventory just to use it on a piece of gear. Finally the tab includes dedicated slots at the bottom for socketable items like Runes and Soul Cores.
Augment Stash Tab
The Augment Stash Tab received a significant rework in patch 0.5 and is now considered one of the more important tabs to have in your setup. The biggest reason for this is Runes.
The Runes of Aldur league introduces a large volume of Runes into the game and they drop frequently as you progress through maps and endgame content. Without a dedicated place to store them they will quickly overflow into your regular stash tabs and create a disorganized mess that slows down your gameplay.
The Augment Stash Tab gives every Rune type its own dedicated slot keeping everything clearly labeled and easy to access whenever you need to socket them into your gear.
If you are planning to engage seriously with the Rune system in patch 0.5 and not having a dedicated tab for them will become a noticeable inconvenience very quickly.
Map Stash Tab
Another tab well worth picking up is the Map Stash Tab, which is considered one of the more important quality of life investments you can make once you start pushing into the endgame.
The Map Stash Tab holds up to 576 Waystones of each tier which is an enormous amount of storage that eliminates the need to dedicate multiple regular tabs to managing your Waystone collection.
Each Waystone tier gets its own section and is further divided into six sub-tabs. Each of those sub-tabs can be individually customized or listed for trade separately which makes it a convenient option for players who actively buy and sell Waystones on the market.
The tab also makes the process of depositing Waystones as smooth as possible. With the Map Stash Tab open, simply Ctrl clicking a Waystone from your inventory will automatically send it to the correct tier slot without any manual sorting required. Controller players can use the dedicated Stash button to achieve the same result.
One additional setting worth enabling straight away is the Waystone Affinity option in the tab settings. Turning this on ensures that Waystones always route to the Map Stash Tab automatically regardless of which stash tab you currently have open.
This removes any chance of Waystones accidentally ending up scattered across your regular tabs and keeps your Waystone collection consistently organised with zero extra effort on your part.
Premium Quad Stash Tab
I would recommend picking up at least one Quad Tab as part of your stash setup. Quad Tabs offer four times the storage space of a standard tab which makes them incredibly useful for storing large volumes of items without chewing through multiple regular tabs.
They work particularly well as a dump tab where you can quickly offload everything from a juiced map or farming session without worrying about organization. Just throw everything in and sort it out later.
The one drawback worth mentioning is that the increased storage comes at the cost of tile size. Everything in a Quad Tab displays significantly smaller than in a standard tab which can make it genuinely difficult to locate specific items at a glance.
Players with poor eyesight in particular may find this frustrating when trying to pick out a specific item from a densely packed tab.

Final Advice
That covers the most important stash tabs to prioritize in Path of Exile 2. Any tabs not mentioned in this guide are not essential and can be skipped entirely depending on your playstyle and how deeply you plan to engage with certain systems. They are not mandatory for most players and you can always pick them up later if you find yourself needing them.
When it comes to purchasing tabs, I would strongly recommend keeping an eye out for bundles that offer Points as part of the deal. These tend to offer significantly better value than buying individual tabs outright and the extra Points can go toward future purchases down the line.
