Valheim is a very linear survival game when it comes to its character progression. While you’re free to explore the world as soon as you get a boat, you will get destroyed without proper armor.
So then, what’s the expected armor progression in the game? Let’s find out in this guide.
Armor progression in Valheim goes hand-in-hand with area progression. Every biome in the game is designed so that you have specific armor when exploring it.
The Meadows are the starting biome where you’ll start with the weak Rag Armor. As you hunt the beasts in the region, you will then upgrade to the Leather Armor.
After that, you will move on to the Black Forest. Here, you will get the light Troll Set by hunting the powerful Trolls and then you will get your first heavy metal armor: the Bronze Armor.
As you move to the Swamp, you will upgrade to the Root Set. If you wish, you can also get the Iron Armor. The Iron Armor provides much better defense but has a movement penalty due to its weight.
Next, you will have to explore the snowy Mountains. Here, you can get the light Fenris Armor and the heavy Wolf Armor. Both sets give you protection against the region’s brutal cold.
As you leave the Mountains, you will head to the dangerous Plains. This region only has one: the Padded Armor. It provides better defense than the Wolf Armor but has the same movement penalty.
Lastly, you will reach the Mistlands. It has the endgame armor sets: the light Eitr-weave Set and the heavy Carapace Armor Set. Both provide the best defense in their class.
Note that both of the Mistlands’ sets have a movement penalty. However, it’s only a -4% movement speed penalty on the Eitr-weave set compared to the Carapace Armor’s -10% penalty.
So, there you have it! That’s all the armor currently in the game. It’s likely that new armor sets will be added once new biomes and regions are added.
Venezuelan gamer cursed by being interested by most games, resulting in a ridiculous backlog he’ll never be able to conquer. Been gaming for over two decades now! Few things exemplify his wide variety in gaming tastes as the fact that he’s a big fan of both Souls games and the Atelier series at the same time. Also a big fan of Yakuza/Like a Dragon, Deadly Premonition, Zero Escape, and Dead Rising, among others. Considers Lost Judgment and Sekiro to both be masterpieces.
