Terraria is an RPG-focused survival game, so it features lots of powerful bosses that players will want to challenge!
In this thorough guide, we’ll go over the recommended boss fight order and give you tips to take them down.
Ultimate Boss Guide for Terraria
The general strategy for bosses is to get strong ranged weapons that allow you to deal damage while keeping your distance.
A lot of bosses have multiple parts you can hit, so don’t ignore weapons with piercing properties and AoE attacks either.
Additionally, you will want to set up a proper arena when fighting some of the most challenging bosses. This generally consists of making one or multiple skybridges.
Skybridges are bridges you build up in the sky, as the name indicates. They typically consist of a platform that’s only 1 block tall.
You will also want good mobility, so things like wings are extremely helpful.
We will also not cover every single boss, as there are a lot of optional bosses that aren’t required for overall progression.
Lastly, there are two sets of bosses: Pre-Hardmode and Hardmode. Hardmode is activated once you defeat the Wall of Flesh boss and will change your game world, spawning stronger bosses
Now, let’s give a quick rundown of all the bosses in the recommended order.
Pre-Hardmode Bosses
Most of the bosses in Pre-Hardmode are optional. Only Skeletron and Wall of Flesh are truly mandatory. However, you should fight as many of them as possible to get used to fighting bosses.
King Slime is one of the first bosses you might encounter. He’s the easiest boss in the game, due to his low health and predictable attacks.
Eye of Cthulhu starts appearing randomly at night if you have high enough stats. It’s a gigantic flying eye. Becomes more aggressive during its second phase. Deal damage during the phase transformation!
Eater of Worlds is a segmented worm that appears in Corruption. Each segment can be damaged individually, so AoE weapons are extremely strong against it.
Brain of Cthulhu is a Crimson-only boss. A flying brain that spawns Creepers. Kill the Creepers to be able to fight the boss directly. It’s one of the few bosses susceptible to knockback, take advantage of that!
Queen Bee is found when breaking larvae at the Bee Hive. It spawns lots of bees to fight you and is also capable of inflicting poison. Bring AoE weapons and Potions to counteract the poison.
Skeletron is the first mandatory boss, it guards the Dungeon. To fight it, find the unique Dungeon in your world and speak to the old man at night.
It takes the form of a giant skull with two skeletal arms. The arms can be broken, limiting its attacks! Defeating it is required to face the final boss of the game.
Wall of Flesh is the final boss of Pre-Hardmode. Defeating it will permanently alter your world by activating Hardmode. Be ready for that! It appears when throwing a Guide Voodoo Doll into lava.
Focus on the allies it spawns first. Also, make sure to stay in front of it, but keep your distance. The Wall will slowly shift toward you, with its speed increasing as you deal more damage. Take it out quickly.
Hardmode Bosses
The first three bosses you will need to beat in Hardmode are collectively known as the Mechanical Bosses.
The Twins are a pair of mechanical eyes that can be summoned with a Mechanical Eye at night. Make sure to focus on one! The battle is a lot easier once one of them goes down.
The Destroyer is a mechanized Eater of Worlds. It’s summoned with a Mechanical Worm at night. Bring powerful AoE or piercing weapons to deal high damage to all of its segments at the same time.
Skeletron Prime is, as you might imagine, a mechanical Skeletron. It has 4 arms but you only need to defeat the skull. It will take reduced damage while spinning its head and is very agile, so be careful.
Plantera is a plant boss that appears in the Underground Jungle after defeating the mechanical bosses. Defeating it will allow you to get the Temple Key later.
It will grapple to nearby walls and ceilings while trying to get close to you. When you deal enough damage, it will enrage and try to attack you more aggressively. Keep your distance as you deal damage.
Golem can be summoned at the Lihzard Altar in the Jungle Temple. During its first phase, you need to destroy its head. You can also destroy its fists to make it easier, just like SKeletron.
For its second phase, its body will open up and start shooting beams at you! Deal damage directly to the body as you avoid the onslaught. Killing it will reward you with the Temple Key if you killed Plantera.
Endgame Lunar Bosses
Lunatic Cultist appears when killing the cultists at the Dungeon’s entrance. The cultists will only spawn if you already killed Golem, as well. Killing it will start the Lunar Events.
It will fly around while barraging you with powerful magic. It will also summon fake clones that attack you when damaged. The clones glow at night, making them easier to spot.
Moon Lord is the final boss of the game. It appears once you complete all four Lunar Events.
It primarily attacks from its hands and eyes, which are also the only parts of it that can be damaged. Carefully attack it when it exposes its weaknesses. Preparing a skybridge makes the fight a lot easier.
Once you do enough damage, its core will be exposed. It will also spawn True Eyes of Cthulhu, which can’t be killed at all! Don’t let the boss overwhelm you as you damage its core.
Take this mighty boss down and you will have beaten the true final boss of Terraria!
Venezuelan gamer cursed by being interested by most games, resulting in a ridiculous backlog he’ll never be able to conquer. Been gaming for over two decades now! Few things exemplify his wide variety in gaming tastes as the fact that he’s a big fan of both Souls games and the Atelier series at the same time. Also a big fan of Yakuza/Like a Dragon, Deadly Premonition, Zero Escape, and Dead Rising, among others. Considers Lost Judgment and Sekiro to both be masterpieces.
