Base building is a key mechanic in Smalland. If you want to survive the wilds, you need to have a base that serves as your shelter and safe zone.
Luckily, the base building mechanics in Smalland aren’t that complicated. However, there are several key things you have to take note of.
In this guide, we’ll look at the basics of base building so you can start building yours right away.
Base Building Guide in Smalland: Survive the Wilds
Similar to other survival games such as ARK and Valheim, you will need a tool to start building. In Smalland’s case, this comes in the form of the Builder’s Hammer.
As the name implies, this tool lets you build various structures as long as you have the required materials.
You will need 2x Fiber and 5x Wood to make one. Simply head over to the Crafting menu and look for the Builder’s Hammer to craft it from your inventory. After that, simply equip the hammer on your hotbar.
Once you have equipped the hammer, you can then press right-click to open up the building menu. This will show you a list of items you can build, with various categories to keep them organized.
The Interactive section lets you build structures like the Simple Bed, Campfire, etc. Meanwhile, the Foundations contain the structures that you’ll need to properly place building sections like walls, floors, doors, and roofs.
The Building section contains the building pieces that you’ll need to make a base. Lastly, there’s the Decoration section which contains decorative items to add life to your base.
You can also use the hammer to repair structures or dismantle them.
Unlocking More Building Pieces
At the start of the game, you’ll only gain access to a limited number of structures. Meanwhile, other structures will need to be unlocked by simply building the already available ones.
For example, if you build a workbench, you’ll then be able to unlock the stonecutter.
On the other hand, other structures, especially the ones in the Building section, require you to obtain their required materials before you can unlock them.
