Furnishing a house in Sims 4 isn’t just placing decorations here and there. It also involves placing walls, foundations, doors, and a roof all in one. Of course, placing furniture and decoration comes second, and you’ll have tons of options when it comes to designing your space.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through the basics of furnishing a house and learning which objects to place in certain areas.

How to Furnish a House in Sims 4

To start, you’ll want to head over to purchase mode by pressing F2 on your keyboard. Here, you can find lots of items you can place such as tables, chairs, beds, cabinets, and more.

There are two main ways to browse the list. One is by grouping the items based on which rooms they belong two. The other is by grouping the items depending on their type, like electronics, tabletops, etc.

Do keep in mind that each item has its own purpose, and some even provide specific skills to your Sim. You can check such information in each of the items’ descriptions. The higher the index, the better the effect an item gives.

With that out of the way, let’s now move on to the tips you need to follow in furnishing a house. We’ll be going through each area of the house. Let’s start with the kitchen.

Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the key rooms inside your house, so it only makes sense to furnish it properly. For the kitchen, you’ll want to buy cabinets, a stove, a sink, and a refrigerator. You want to place both the refrigerator and the strove close to each other. Then, place a cabinet in the middle.

This way, your Sim will be able to take ingredients from the refrigerator, prepare them on top of the cabinet, then cook them on the stove. A fire alarm above your stove is also necessary. Of course, don’t forget the trashcan and a table with a few chairs.

You can then finish furnishing the area by adding a coffee maker, a microwave oven, and some other appliances.

Living Room

Next is the living room. For this one, you need to buy either an armchair or a couch. You don’t really need a lot of furnishings at the beginning. It’s only in the later stages when you have enough funds that you can start furnishing your living room like crazy.

Bathroom

The bathroom is one of the most important areas of your house. For this one, you have to make sure it’s as comfortable as possible. You can prioritize buying a toilet, a bathtub, and a washbasin. You can also go for a shower tub, but I highly recommend a bathtub, especially one that has a showerhead.

Though the items you can buy for your bathroom are mostly expensive, you shouldn’t economize. Just keep in mind that a more expensive toilet, for example, can make your Sim’s life a lot more convenient. If you have enough funds, you can spend them on decoration. A huge mirror, some flowers, a rug, and closets are a few good examples.

If there are more than two Sims in your household, then you’d want to consider adding an extra bathroom as well.

Bedroom

Obviously, you’ll need a bed in the bedroom. However, the more expensive the bed, the better. Don’t economize on that, as a good bed can help your Sim sleep better. Apart from the bed, you also want to add some decors like a dresser, a mirror, or even a closet. If you have enough funds, you can further improve your bedroom to improve your Sim’s mood.

Just make sure not to make it a crossing room so your Sim won’t be interrupted during sleep.
