“Plain-Running Hunter” is one of the Exploration Codex tasks for the Blackhowl Plains region in Throne & Liberty.

You’ll get to help the local hunters and catch a glimpse of their lives. Learn to use some of their tools, such as Pathway Torches and Wolf Traps. Also, help any hunters you see being overwhelmed by the wild wolves. There’s quite a lot to do here!

In this guide, we’ll tell you how to complete every objective for the “Plain-Running Hunter” Exploration Codex entry.

Plain-Running Hunter Exploration Codex | Throne & Liberty Guide

Exploration Codex location

There are 3 different objectives for the “Plain-Running Hunter” Exploration Codex task in Throne & Liberty. All of them take place in the Blackhowl Plains, particularly in the area around the Hunter’s Respite and Western Campsite. We’ve encircled the area in the map above for you.

Pathway Torch 1

Once you’re in the area, go for the first objective: light or extinguish 1 Pathway Torch. Pathway Torches are tall torches that, as their name implies, are placed along the path on the western part of the Blackhowl Plains. You can see an example of one such torch in the image above. Note that the game marks them on your map with blue star-shaped icons.

Pathway Torch 2

Simply interact with one of the Pathway Torches to either light it or extinguish it, depending on its current state.

Help a Hunter Fight Wolves

Hunter 1

Your second objective here is to help a hunter in combat with wolves. Hunters are NPCs that travel around the area and usually get attacked by wild wolves. This is a random occurrence, however, so it isn’t scripted to happen in one specific place.

Hunter 2

You’ll need to explore the Blackhowl Plains until it triggers. Thankfully, just like the Pathway Torches, hunters are marked on your map in-game with blue star-shaped icons. When you see a hunter fighting wild wolves, approach them and help them fend off the wolves.

Hunter's Reward

Talk with the hunter after helping them to get the Hunter’s Reward as a thank-you gift. This will also mark the second objective for the “Plain-Running Hunter” Exploration Codex as done!

Use a Wolf Trap

Wolf Trap Location

Lastly, you have to make use of a Wolf Trap. Similarly to previous objectives, Wolf Traps are marked on your map with blue star-shaped icons and spread over the Blackhowl Plains. There should be one directly west of the Hunter’s Respite landmark, just in case, as shown above.

Wolf Trap 1

Once you reach the Wolf Trap, interact with it to bait the nearby wolves. Now you just have to stand your ground and fight off the waves of hostile wolves.

Wolf Trap 2

Defend the Wolf Trap so that the wolves can’t break it completely!

Wolf Trap 3

After a few minutes, the bait on the Wolf Trap will disappear and wolves will stop appearing. When this happens, interact with the Wolf Trap to check on it and complete the objective.

That’s all you need to do to complete the “Plain-Running Hunter” Exploration Codex task in Throne & Liberty. This isn’t the only Codex task in the Blackhowl Plains, however. There’s also the “Return of the Age of Wolves” task tied to the Wolf Hunting Contest event.
