Ancient Vows is one of the quests you can take on during Act 2 in Path of Exile 2, and it simply requires you to find a pair of Relics and place them at an altar.

This quest is also somewhat random. It’s not given to you by any NPC or anything like that, it just automatically starts once you find one of the Relics. However, there’s a lot of randomization and other odd issues with this quest that can make it trickier than it should be.

Fret not, though, we’ll help you complete this quest no matter what issues you may face!

Ancient Vows Quest Guide | Where To Find & Place Relics

As we mentioned previously, there are two Relics you need to find and place for the Ancient Vows quest in Path of Exile 2. Both of them are available starting in Act 2 of the campaign, but they are completely random drops. The quest officially starts when you pick up either of the Relics.

These are the Relics and where to find them:

  • Sun Clan Relic – The game says you can find this Relic in the Mastodon Badlands. However, it seems to drop randomly from enemies in The Bone Pits area instead. Whether this is a glitch or an issue with the quest objective text is unknown. Either way, you’ll need to kill the Sun Clan Scavenger enemies in The Bone Pits until you get it.
  • Kabala Clan Relic – You can get this Relic as a random drop from enemies in Keth. It seems to primarily drop from serpentine enemies, like the Serpent Shamans.

Once you manage to get your hands on both Relics, you have to find an altar for them in the Valley of Titans.

Placing the Relics at the Altar

Just like with other quests, such as the Secrets in the Dark quest, the location you have to find now is in a random spot due to maps being procedurally generated. Nonetheless, you’re looking for the Medallion altar shown above, which is usually close to the area’s Waypoint.

Interact with the altar and put the Sun Clan Relic on the right side, then the Kabala Clan Relic on the left side. If you’re playing with mouse and keyboard, the interface can be pretty finicky currently. Holding the ALT key while dragging the Relics seems to help, though. Alternatively, use a controller just for this section.

Once you place the Relics, you can pick one of the two following permanent buffs:

  • 30% Increased Charm Charges Gained
  • 15% Mana Recovery from Flasks

Whichever buff you pick remains active for the rest of your playthrough. However, you can also come back to the altar to switch which buff you want if you change your mind later!

Nonetheless, that’s everything you need to know to find and place the relics as part of the “Ancient Vows” quest in Path of Exile 2. Pretty rewarding quest… despite the many issues such as the altar’s finicky interface and incorrect in-game objective text! Well, that’s just how it is with Early Access games, it seems…
