Mutation is a new mechanic introduced in Palworld 1.0 that’s tied to the game’s existing breeding mechanic. With this new mechanic, you can get to have some of the strongest Pals in the game, provided that you invest plenty of time in it.
In this guide, we’re going to look at how mutation works in the game and the best ways to increase the chances of getting Mutated Pals.
The Best Ways to Increase the Chance of Getting Mutated Pals in Palworld 1.0

In case you’re wondering, the Mutation mechanic gives your Pal pairs a chance to produce a Mutated Egg which will then hatch into a Mutated Pal.
This Mutated Pal will have significantly stronger stats compared to their non-mutated counterparts. It’s somewhat similar to ARK where you can get stronger companions, though how their systems work differs.
Aside from stronger stats, Mutated Pals will also get a random passive from the mutation pool. They’re as follows:
- Babysitter – Increases the incubation and egg-laying speed of nearby Pals when a mutated Pal with this mutation is assigned to a breeding farm
- Heavily Armored – Increases a Pal’s defense and also grants it immunity to explosion damage
- Idiosyncratic – Grants you and the mutated Pal passive health regen
- Immortal – Dramatically increases the mutated Pal’s health regen during combat, as well as granting lifesteal and attack boost
- Skymarcher – Makes the Pal immune to poison and burn, not to mention increasing its overall defense
Do take note that these passives aren’t exclusive to mutation breeding, as you can also get them from Disposable Implants.
That said, what are the chances of getting a mutation?
Well, to be frank, it’s quite low. As of now, there’s no method to guarantee a Mutated Egg, as the system relies heavily on RNG. Community testing has shown that you only have roughly a 1% chance of getting a mutation using Cake.
The upgraded version, which is the Extravagant Vegetable Cake, can bump up the number to 3%.
Increasing Your Chances of Getting a Mutation

As mentioned, there is currently no guaranteed method of forcing a mutation.
Each breeding attempt relies heavily on RNG. That means your best strategy is to simply produce as many eggs as possible.
Most experienced breeders would focus on building automated breeding farms that constantly generate eggs while they perform other activities. The more eggs you hatch, the more opportunities you create for the mutation roll to succeed.
You can also use new cake recipes introduced in 1.0 that can directly affect breeding outcomes. Among the most useful are:
- Mushroom Cake which slightly increases the likelihood that newborn Pals have higher stats.
- Vegetable Cake which allows a breeding pair to produce two eggs instead of one.
While none of these guarantee mutations, they significantly increase the number or quality of breeding attempts over time. This makes them quite valuable for endgame breeding.

Another key strategy that’s honestly worth giving a try is using a Pal named Grintale. Grintale is a Neutral-type Pal with the Glaring Cat’s Eye ability.
This passive ability grants you a 50-75% chance to get an extra Pal egg when picking them up. As long as you have Grintale in your party, you should be able to get more eggs.
The more eggs you get = the higher your chance of getting a mutated one.
Conclusion
Long story short, you want to hatch as many eggs as possible to get a higher chance of getting a mutated version. With that in mind, the Mutation mechanic has been one of the most rewarding additions in Palworld 1.0.
With enough patience and a little luck, you should be able to form a team of powerful Mutated Pals that are well worth the effort.
