Palia: How to Get Phoenix Fire and Thoroughbred Mounts for Free

Palia finally added horses with the Royal Highlands expansion, and everyone wants the cool ones. You can get a free Dawnspur almost immediately after arriving in the new zone through a simple quest, but that’s not the one you’re here for. The two that everyone actually wants are the Phoenix Fire Dawnspur and the Akwindu Thoroughbred.

But here is the messy part, even if you unlock these special horses, you can’t ride them right away. Riding is locked behind a Riding License you have to buy from the Premium Store, which is a bit of a buzzkill. But don’t let that stop you from getting the horses themselves. You can still unlock both of them for free through quests and accomplishments. In this guide, I will break down exactly how to get them both.

Unlocking Phoenix Fire & Akwindu Thoroughbred

The first thing you need to do is complete all of Binnie’s previous quests. Once you are done with all of them, he will give you a new quest called “Flame Wars“. In this quest, you will automatically receive the Wisteria Tea recipe.

Now all you need to do is gather some Royal Wisteria and Dari Cloves. Royal Wisteria grows in the Royal Highlands region and Dari Cloves can be found in the wild as well. Once you have both ingredients, head to your campfire or a grill and use it to craft the Wisteria Tea.

Once you have the tea ready, you need to head to the Flame Queen and offer it to her. Her exact location is marked on the map below so just follow that marker and you will find her.

After you offer the tea to the Flame Queen, head back to Binnie and talk to him. He will give you the Phoenix Fire Dawnspur Voucher. You can then take that voucher to the Ranching Store and trade it in to get your Phoenix Fire mount.

Getting Akwindu Thoroughbred

Now to get the Akwindu Thoroughbred, you need to complete the “A Horse of a Different Color” accomplishment. All you have to do is encounter 30 different traits on ridable animals. You can do this by breeding your horses or feeding them cookies and the traits will start adding up on their own.

Once you discover 30 unique traits, the accomplishment will pop up and you will get the Akwindu Thoroughbred Voucher. You can redeem it through the Ranching Store to receive your mount. It takes a little time but it is free and you will probably get it naturally just by playing.

That’s It

So that is how you get both special mounts without spending anything. The Phoenixfire Dawnspur comes from Binnie’s questline and the Akwindu Thoroughbred is just a matter of checking off those 30 traits. Sure you cannot ride them without buying the Riding License, but they still look great standing around your ranch. And who knows, maybe Palia will add a free way to ride later.
