“Look Around Inside the House” is a potentially tedious step of the Miles Apart quest in Neverness to Everness (NTE).

This part of the quest basically requires you to go around looking for specific items inside a house. The problem is, these items are very easy to miss and you are given basically no instructions!

Fret not, though, because I’ll make your life a lot easier with this guide.

Look Around Inside the House | “Miles Apart” Quest Guide

To be able to complete this tedious part of the quest, you’ll need to use the “A Switch from Tungsten” item to switch back and forth between the two versions of the house. These are the present (daylight) and past (nighttime). To simplify, I’ll refer to the item as just the Switch.

Anyway, as soon as you get the objective to look around the house, you’ll be in the present. Use the Switch to go to the past, then talk to the girl in the living room of the house. She’ll essentially kick you out.

As soon as you gain control of your character again, use the Switch again to go to the present. Then, follow the quest marker to the cupboard on the second floor of the house. Switch to the past and interact with the cupboard with the vase to read a letter.

Hallway shift | NTE: Look Around the House for Miles Apart Quest Guide

Once you’ve done that, the hallway in the past version of the house will shift. It will open up and lead to a brand-new area. Follow the phantoms to check that area out.

Memories | NTE: Look Around the House for Miles Apart Quest Guide

In this area, you can submit various items you find around the house. Submit the right items to each one of the memories and you’ll complete this part of the quest!

However, if you’ve been following along, you won’t have all of the required items just yet. So, just return from where you came to go back into the house.

At the same time, it’s worth noting that there are various red herrings sprinkled around the house. That is, useless items that you don’t need to interact with or pick up at all. For the sake of this guide, I’ll obviously ignore those.

With that said, it’s time to go over where to find all the required items!

How to Find All of the Required Items

Patty’s Design Draft

For the first required item, go into the first room to your left as soon as you come back from the memory area. Alternatively, it’s the far-right room if you came from the stairs. Either way, you can find the Paint Can on the floor in the past version of the room.

Once you’ve picked up the Paint Can, go back to the present version of the house. Go downstairs and leave the house, then turn to your right to find Patty. Give her the Paint Can to obtain Patty’s Design Draft.

The Fox and the Swing (New)

Next up, go back inside the house and use the Switch to go to the past. Then, head to the bathroom in the second floor of the house. Interact with the Dirty Clothes there to get a key.

Once you’ve obtained that key, switch back to the present. Then, go to the far-right room on the second floor again. That’s where the Paint Can was before. Use the key on the locked cabinet to get “The Fox and the Swing (New).”

Cake Recipe

For the next item, go back downstairs to the kitchen in the past version of the house. Interact with the fridge to read the Sticky Notes. You should get the Cake Recipe item once you’ve read the notes.

Mended Teddy Bear

For the final item, first go to the far-left bedroom on the past version of the second floor. You should see a teddy bear right in front of you, by the window. Interact with it to get the Damaged Teddy Bear.

Next, go back downstairs to the living room, the one where you met the girl earlier. Switch to the present, then submit the Damaged Teddy Bear to the Household Toolbox next to the TV. You’ll receive the Mended Teddy Bear in return!

How to Submit the Correct Items to Advance the Memory

With all of the key items in your possession, you’re now ready to finish this part of the quest! So, go back to the second floor in the past version of the house. Go down the hallway back to the fragmented memories area.

In this area, you need to go through various doors, each one leading to an area where a central memory is. Interact with the central memory and submit the correct items, which are the ones you picked up before.

Provided you followed along and didn’t pick up any of the useless items, you can’t make any mistakes in this section. Nonetheless, here’s a quick reference sheet for each memory and its correct item:

  • Floating beds and pillows – The Fox and the Swing (New). It’s the closed green book on the right.
  • Teddy bear on the moon – Mended Teddy Bear. It’s the teddy bear in pristine condition in the middle.
  • Massive cake and its ingredients – Cake Recipe. This is the yellow sheet of paper on the right.
  • Pencils, paint, and other assorted painting supplies – Patty’s Design Draft. It’s the pink and white paper on the left.

After you submit all of the correct items, a large blue mirror will appear. As the nearby phantom says, you just need to go through the mirror. Get ready to fight waves of enemies, though! Follow the glowing mirror after each wave.

Once you’ve dealt with the enemies, you’ll be back outside the house in the present, receiving a Hair Clip. Go inside the house’s living room and give the hair clip to Patty to complete this part of the quest!

After this point, the quest becomes completely linear. You’ll just need to follow the quest marker to clean up and finish it. No more item hunting left, thankfully.

Wrapping Up

Phew, there’s a reason some people think the quest is tedious! Nonetheless, that’s all you need to do to complete the “Look Around Inside the House” step of the “Miles Apart” quest in NTE.

Personally, I think it’s pretty great to have a quest that doesn’t directly tell you what to do. It’s always fun to explore and figure things out! But I do feel like the instructions are a tad too unclear in this case, especially compared to the rest of the game…

If you’re tired of hunting for items, how about hunting for an Anomaly? It sounds silly, I know! But, there’s a free S Rank Arc in for you. For more details, check out our guide for the “Day Off” Arc.
