Decorations normally come in 3-slot variants in the Monster Hunter series. However, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak added a whole new tier of decoration power with level 4 decorations.

Unlocking them is one of those late-game milestones that actually feels worth the grind. Unlike the base game, however, Sunbreak’s level 4 jewels often give multiple points in a skill or unlock skills that didn’t have a jewel before.

This guide will show you how.

Before anything else, let’s first have a brief overview of what 4-slot decorations are.

Back then, decorations come in levels 1 through 3. Now, level 4 being is the highest level which is exclusive to Master Rank content introduced in Sunbreak.

That said, a level 4 decoration can only go into level 4 slots on armor or god charms. However, those slots pay off with much stronger skill contributions compared to older decos.

Unlike older games where decorations might drop randomly, in Sunbreak, you unlock and craft decorations at the smithy by obtaining specific monster materials from quests and investigations.

To unlock level 4 decorations, you need to push deeper into Master Rank and acquire rare materials, especially from Anomaly Investigations or Risen monsters.

You unlock decorations for crafting once you’ve collected the necessary monster parts. However, there’s no random drop table for the deco itself, since as soon as you get the required parts, the recipe unlocks in the smithy.

For many high-tier level 4 decorations, you’ll need materials only found in high AR (Anomaly Research) or specific Risen Elder Dragon investigations.

Certain decos, like Expert Jewel+ 4 (Critical Eye), require rare drops like Risen Dragon Thickblood from specific high-level investigations featuring Crimson Glow Valstrax or Shagaru Magala to unlock the recipe.

Examples of Level 4 Decorations and How to Unlock Them

Here are some examples of level 4 decorations that were added in Sunbreak and how to unlock them:

  • Phoenix Jewel+ 4 (Coalescence) – Enhances attack after recovering from blights. You can unlock this after slaying a Risen Chameleos for the first time.
  • Foil Jewel+ 4 (Tune-Up) – Improves bowgun custom mod stats. It requires afflicted materials from Anomaly Investigations and other monster parts before you can craft it.
  • Hard Dragon Jewel+ 4 (Dragon Attack) – Boosts dragon element attack. You unlock the recipe when you obtain afflicted bones from anomaly quests, and then craft it with those plus jewels.
  • KO Jewel+ 4 (Slugger) – Makes it easier to stun monsters. This can be unlocked once you’ve gathered the required afflicted shell from high-rank or anomaly content.
  • Mighty Jewel+ 4 (Maximum Might) – Boosts affinity when stamina stays full; can be unlocked by defeating Violet Mizutsune at least once.

Since there’s no randomized “drop rate” for the decoration recipes themselves, your goal isn’t to gamble but to target the monster parts you haven’t gotten yet.

If a decoration you’re planning to acquire is still locked at the smithy, that usually means your inventory lacks a specific monster part the recipe needs. Or, you haven’t completed the quest that yields that part yet.
