174 articlesIf you want to keep on progressing in LEGO Fortnite, you’ll have to keep on upgrading your tools and equipment. There will be materials that you won’t be able to access or obtain without having to upgrade your tools. But how exactly does one do that? It’s pretty simple.
How To Craft Better Tools
First things first, set up your crafting bench. Once it’s ready, activate it and press R1 on console (or the equivalent on PC) to access the upgrade menu.
Upgrade the bench once (to Uncommon Tier), and voila! You’ve unlocked all the recipes for Uncommon tools.

Now, why Uncommon tools? Well, they’re a massive improvement over the basic ones, and you’ll be able to, of course, craft better tools.
To upgrade your crafting bench, you’ll need a rare item called shells from mobs called Rollers. We have a guide on that as well, that you might want to check out!
But in a nutshell, explore fieldy/forest biomes, look for small rocks with leaves sticking out, and defeat the rollers that pop out of the ground. These Rollers drop shells, and you can use them to upgrade your bench.
When dealing with Rollers, use your pickaxe or sword to take them down. They can be a bit tricky, but if you shield up when they roll at you, it’ll knock them on their back, giving you the chance to finish them off easily.
To upgrade your Crafting Bench to Rare Tier, here are the materials you’ll need. This will let you get access to even better tools, which are Rare tools!
- Knotwood Rod – You’ll need to find Knotwood (Tier 2 wood) in caves and place them in a Lumber Mill.
- Marble Slab – As for this one, you’ll have to gather Marbles from caves as well, and build a stone breaker – which you’ll unlock at Village Hub (Level 3).
- Sand Claw – You can find them as drop from Sand Wolves located in the Dry Valley biome.
- Sand Shell – This material is a drop from the Sand Crab/Roller found in the Shore biome.
So, there you have it – a quick and easy way to upgrade your crafting bench & tools in LEGO Fortnite.
