The Alters is a new base building and survival game where you create multiple versions of the protagonist in order to fix your setup and find a way our of this harsh planet that he crash landed on. As you upgrade your base and add new facilities, you are eventually going to need to research new stuff, so this guide will show you how to do this simple task.
How to Unlock New Research Tiers in The Alters
Research is one of the basic mechanics of the game, and you will eventually need to go through each of the tiers in order to unlock various new tech and even additional alters to add to your roster. There are four tiers to unlock, getting through the trees will be simple.
All you need to do is raise your Qubit level in order to start seeing what the later tiers have to offer. In order to do this, you must find damaged Qubit chips all around the map.
The game is fairly small and straightforward, and the story often nudges you in the right direction, so you will eventually find these as you explore the map. You will find these chips all throughout the first and second act, and there are three in total.
You should be able to figure the rest out on your own, as the game will keep pushing you toward the right path. For instance, the technician will tell you that you can fix these chips at the workshop, which will cost a few of your metals and minerals.
Once you have upgraded your Qubit level by inserting the fixed chips into the computer, the question marks in your research page will gradually be revealed. If you pay attention to the unrevealed research nodes, you should be able to tell which Qubit level is needed to unlock certain paths in the tree.
And that is pretty much everything you need to know in order to start researching more in the game. Again, it is a fairly straightforward system as the game is not designed to be incredibly long or complex due to being a narrative driven title.
