Paralives is one of the latest life simulation games that hit Early Access on Steam. As with most life sim games, one of your ultimate goals is to start a family. However, Paralives takes on a different approach when it comes to this aspect.
If you’ve played games like The Sims before, you may assume that trying for a baby is as simple as clicking a bed and selecting an option. In Paralives, however, you have to meet several relationship requirements and complete certain gameplay mechanics first.
This can be a bit confusing, and we’re here to help you. Without further ado, here’s how you can try for a baby in Paralives.
How to Try for a Baby in Paralives

Before your Paras can even think about having children together, they need to build a strong romantic connection first.
Unlike other life sims where family planning is immediately available after becoming romantic partners, Paralives places a greater emphasis on relationship progression. As a result, your Paras should reach the Lover relationship status before they can even try for a baby.
Only when they’ve developed enough romantic chemistry that special relationship discussion cards become available.

During these conversations, you’ll eventually receive an “Ask if they want to have children in the future” card. You just have to successfully complete these discussions to unlock the ability to pursue pregnancy later.
Another thing to keep in mind is that your Paras should be compatible.
It’s worth noting that Paralives separates reproductive settings from gender settings. When creating a Para in the Paramaker, you can choose whether a character can become pregnant or can get others pregnant.
These settings determine whether natural conception is possible between two Paras. One Para must be capable of becoming pregnant, while the other must be capable of getting others pregnant.
This system gives you more flexibility when creating households and relationships.
If your Paras meet the romantic requirements but pregnancy never occurs, checking these settings is one of the first troubleshooting steps worth taking.
What Most Players Tend to Miss

However, selecting a single Para is not enough.
Once your Paras have discussed having children together, you must actively select both Paras at the same time before the “Try for Baby” interaction becomes available. Once both characters are selected, click on a bed and you’ll see the option appear.
To do this, make sure to select both Paras together. Click on a double bed, then choose “Try for Baby.” After that, you simply have to allow the interaction to complete.
If everything is set up correctly, you’ll have a chance of starting a pregnancy.
But then again, pregnancy is not guaranteed. Even when you have met all requirements, pregnancy still involves an element of chance. Sometimes your Paras will successfully conceive on the first attempt. Other times, it may take several tries before pregnancy occurs.

Due to this, don’t panic if nothing happens immediately. If your first attempt fails, simply wait a short period and try again.
After trying for a baby, you can then confirm pregnancy via a pregnancy test interaction found on household toilets. A positive result immediately confirms that the process was successful and begins the pregnancy progression.
Final Thoughts
Trying for a baby in Paralives takes a lot more involvement compared to most life simulation games on the market. Despite the complexity, it’s actually part of what makes the system feel rewarding.
Now that you know how to try a baby in the game, maybe it’s about time to do it with your own Paras. Good luck with your new family!
