That means, there can be 6 alternate “yous” helping you survive. Gotta rely on the realest one you know, right? Read on to learn how to get all Alter slots.
How To Get More Alters Slots | The Alters
First of all, you’ll get your first 3 Alter slots naturally through progressing the game’s story. They are unmissable, so you just need to continue playing to get them!
Once you finally get the third story-mandated Alter slot, you will be told that you can get more slots by upgrading the Quantum Computer’s Qubit level. To do that, you’ll need to collect Damaged Chips and repair them at the Workshop to turn them into Qubit Chips.
There are a total of 3 Damaged Chips for you to find, with each one unlocking 1 extra Alter slot. In total, you’ll get to have 6 Alter Slots each playthrough. This isn’t enough to have every single Alter at once, so it encourages replaying if you want to see all possible Jans.

Now, for the locations of the Damaged Chips. You can find your first one in Act 1, on the spot marked on the map above. It’s close to the Minerals deposit you need to get as part of the story.
The next Damaged Chip you can find is in Act 2, as shown above. It’s by an Enriched Metal deposit, not far off from your base’s location.
The third and final Damaged Chip is also found in Act 2. It’s deeper into the area, surrounded by a large anomaly in the forested area. You’ll need to wait for the anomaly to shrink before you can destroy its cores and get the chip.
After that, just bring the Damaged Chips to your Workshop. Repair them to craft Qubit Chips and use them at the Quantum Computer to upgrade it. Do it for all chips to get 6 total Alter slots!
