Learning how to fish is a very useful skill in Windrose, as it’s a fantastic source of food in this game. Which is always useful due to how powerful Food Buffs are!

Plus, this is a game about pirates. You’re surrounded by the seas constantly, giving you plenty of water to go fishing. The only hard part is, of course, figuring out how to actually do it in this game.

In this quick guide, I’ll tell you everything you need to go fishing in Windrose.

How to Unlock Fishing

To be able to fish, you’ll first need to unlock the ability to craft a Simple Fishing Rod. For that, you’ll first need to eliminate the threat in the Coastal Jungle so that you can move onto the Foothills biome.

Once you get to the Foothills, you just need to find and chop down any tree. Really, any tree will do! You’ll get a new material known as Hardwood when you do this, which unlocks the Simple Fishing Rod crafting schematic.

When you have the Simple Fishing Rod schematic, you’ll need to craft it at a Workbench. It requires the following resources:

  • Hardwood x5 – As explained before, you get it from chopping trees in the Foothills.
  • Rope x3 – Craft it at a Workbench using Plant Fiber you get from collecting shrubs and bushes.
  • Foothills Iron Ingot x2 – Make it a Smelting Furnace using Foothills Iron Ore, which you get from mining in the Foothills.

Once you have all of these resources, just craft the Simple Fishing Rod at a Workbench and you’re all done with this step!

How to Fish

The only thing left for you to do now is to go fishing. Thankfully, this is way easier than the process of obtaining the Simple Fishing Rod was.

All you need to do is to put the fishing rod in your hotbar and equip it like any other tool. Stand close to a body of water and then press the Light Attack button (Left Click, RB, or R1) to cast your line.

The higher you look, the further you’ll cast the line. This doesn’t seem to have any important effect for fishing in this game, but it’s worth noting!

Once you’ve cast, you just need to wait for a big splash, like the one shown above. When you notice it, press the Light Attack button again to instantly reel in the fish you caught. That’s it, you’ve fished successfully!

So, there you have it, that’s all you need to know about how to fish in Windrose. It’s a very simple process once you get the Simple Fishing Rod, really! It’s a fantastic source of food, too, as you might imagine.

Fishing is great and all, but do you also need plant-based resources for your adventures? If you do, check out our complete farming guide for Windrose.
