Monster Hunter Wilds lets you cover up your gear with some layered armor, which gives you the option of customizing your character’s appearance without being locked into whatever junk you have on at the moment. If you want to have a more consistent aesthetic throughout your hunts, here is a quick guide on how to equip layered armor!

Simply put, all you need to do is go to your tent whether it is at a base camp or in a pop-up location. Here, scroll over to the Appearance Menu tab and then select the “Equipment Appearance” setting.

In this menu, you have the options of switching out your layered armor or even hiding specific gear pieces if you would rather have a barer appearance or just want to take off your character’s helmet without having to fiddle with the game’s settings.

It should be noted, however, that you can’t really do this until you finish the main story and reach the high rank monsters. As veterans of Monster Hunter games would know, this is when the actual game begins and where you finally get much better gear.

Unless you have cosmetics like the Guild Knight set from pre-ordering the game, you will not have any layered armor to use until you finally get out of what is regarded as “low rank”. Once you have reached high rank, though, you can now make gear that can be used as layered armor.

If you are still making your way through the painfully slow story mode of the game, then you will just have to keep on grinding until you get done with it before you get the freedom of customization that this feature offers.

While you are here, make sure to check out our guide on Artian weapons so that you can start crafting some and start farming up resources for high rank hunts. This should help you grind stuff to craft some layered armor!
