Assassin’s Creed Shadows introduces various new features and even combat mechanics that might be a bit confusing for both newcomers and veterans to the franchise. Among the things that you might be a bit puzzled by are the scouts, which you can use for various things in the map. In this guide, we will quickly go through what they are and how they work.
How Do the Scouts Work in the Game
The scouts in this game are basically mainly used to help you locate various questobjectives or targets that you can go after. There are a few other uses that we will try to explain along the way too.
For example, if you have a certain quest or target that gives you hints on where you might find wherever your objective is, you can use scouts to search a set radius. After dispatching them, if you selected the correct spot, the objective should now pop up as a marker on the map.
Basically, just use the clues given to you by the game. For instance, if it tells you that they are on the western part of a specific region, and within a certain village there, then look for it on the map and start your search there.
You can also use scouts to gather resources at various camps and castles. To do this, look for barrel icons on your compass as you navigate through one of these points of interest. They will have the option to smuggle resources when you approach them.
This will cost you some of your scouts for the season. As the game will tell you in the tooltip that pops up after your first time, these stolen stockpiles of resources will show up at your hideout once the season is over. Just look for a crate that you can loot in your stable.
Now, you only have a limited number of scouts to use at any given time, however, they can replenish over time. Whenever the season changes, your number of scouts will refresh and you are free to use them all again.
One other way to refill them faster is by going to a Kakurega. There, you can spend some of your money to refill scouts. Just interact with the colored bags hanging from one of the walls to do so.
Scouts also benefit from various upgrades to your hideout. For example, a higher level stable will let your scouts smuggle even more resources from stockpiles that you find in enemy camps or castles. Some structures will also give you additional scouts to use every season.
There are many more things to explore when it comes to this feature, so just keep upgrading your base to see what else you can get as you progress further into the game.
And that is pretty much everything you need to know in order to start making use of these scouts in the game. The only other thing to note is that having guided mode on will completely remove the need to use them for objective searching. This will free them up for other uses instead, though we recommend keeping the option off if you are a completionist.
