Granblue Fantasy Relink has 20 playable characters to be exact, each one with a different set of skills and an element. That said, there is a lot for a new player to take in with very little explanation of how things work and what to do at the start.

Below, we’ll take things back to the very beginning and explore a few skills that you will need to keep in mind when making progress throughout the story.

Best Skills to Learn at the Start

There are many different skills available for each character. From the outset, only numerous characters are unlocked. Unlocking new characters will increase the amount of skills in your team.

There are 6 Elements in the game, and each player is assigned one. Having characters with the same element will make it easier to build a team. From time to time, you may come across a difficult boss fight and will need to swap the roles of different characters.

You can unlock new characters from Siero’s Knickknack Shack, as seen in the image above. To unlock these characters, you will need to use Crewmate Cards.

Upgrade Masteries

Upgrading a player’s skills is one of the best ways to improve the strength of your team. Each player has two sets of Mastery Trees, an Offensive and Defensive tree.

Mastery Tree for upgrading skills

You can unlock new skills for your characters in the Mastery Tree, as shown in the image above. Be warned that upgrades aren’t the cheapest, and you’ll need to use your mastery points wisely when upgrading your characters’ skill trees.

You can gain mastery points by completing side quests and optional missions. The skills you unlock will turn your characters into dedicated Healers or Tanks, improving their strengths in battle.

Perfect Guard and Perfect Dodge

Offensive skills will always come in handy, as you try to combat your way through groups of enemies. That said, you can’t just blast your way to victory without taking damage. Some aggressive enemies will force you to rethink your combat strategies.

Perfect Dodge Skill

Dodging and blocking are two effective skills you can unlock to avoid taking on damage. Dodging an attack at the right moment will give you Temporary Invincibility while Blocking an attack will fill the Stun Gauge of your enemies.

You can unlock these skills when upgrading your Defensive Masteries for each player. The Perfect Dodge and Perfect Block abilities allow you to perform these defensive moves. Most characters have these defensive abilities available from the start, however, some require more time to unlock.

Upgrade Support Skills

As we mentioned earlier, there are two types of skills players can unlock: Offensive and Defensive. What we forgot to mention is that each skill is either an Active or Support skill. Active skills are the ones that require you to push a button in combat.

Support Skills

On the other hand, Support skills are passive effects that increase a character’s skills and effectiveness in combat. Upgrading a character’s Support skills will increase the overall effectiveness of your entire crew, as seen in the image above.

With all that said, fighting is a lot easier when you have the basic skills to match your opposition!
