The Ancestral Temple in Genshin Impact is home to one of the trickiest puzzles currently in the game. The puzzle here is a big part of the “To the Night, What is the Night’s” quest, as you will need to finish the Ancestral Temple puzzle to complete the quest.
In this guide, we will be looking at exactly what you need to do to solve this puzzle, and after that, complete the “To the Night, What is the Night’s” quest.
Ancestral Temple Puzzle Guide
If you don’t know where the Ancestral Temple is, the image above shows its exact location. To enter the Ancestral Temple ruins area and start the quest there, you will need to collect 3 Trial Keystones. You can get these keystones by completing 3 Ball Relay puzzles found just outside the temple.
Collecting The Keystones – Ball Relay Puzzles
All 3 Ball Relay quests will require you to use a Yumkasaur to solve them. You can take control of a Yumkusaur using the green interactable object shown above, and there will be one of these in front of you when you get to the Ancient Temple.
After taking control of a Yumkasaur, jump down to the broken bridge in front of you to start the first Ball Relay puzzle.
Puzzle #1
So for the first Ball Relay puzzle, the first thing that you need to do is pick up the levitating ball in front of you.
After you pick up the ball, you will need to throw it into the yellow portal right behind you. Doing this will complete the puzzle and give you the first Trial Keystone. In addition to the keystone, a chest will also spawn in front of you. So make sure you loot this before you leave this area.
Puzzle #2
The second keystone that you will need can be found towards the east side of the Ancestral Temple. You can get to its location by using the grappling points shown in the image above.
The puzzle here is pretty similar to the first Relay Ball puzzle, it just has a few more steps to it. So like before, the first thing that you will need to do is pick up the levitating ball.
After picking up the ball, look behind you and throw it into the red ball carrier in front of you. As soon as the ball goes inside the ball carrier, the ball carrier will shoot it toward the yellow portal. This yellow portal will be blocked by a closed gate though, so before the ball reaches the portal, you will need to raise the closed gate to allow the ball to enter the portal.
To raise the gate here, you will need to use the Yumkasaur’s grappling ability on the lever next to the gate. Doing this will raise the gate and allow the ball to enter the portal. Like before, completing this puzzle will give you the Trial Keystone and a chest.
Puzzle #3
With 2 Trial Keystones in your possession, you need to get your hands on just one more. The last keystone can be found on a platform opposite to the platform where you get the second keystone. So the platform you need to get to is on the western side of the Ancestral Temple.
The puzzle here is going to be a bit different from the other 2 puzzles, as the ball carrier that you need to through the ball in will be pointing away from the portal you need to get the ball to. So to change the direction of the ball carrier, you will need to simply hit it using any of your attacks.
When you through the ball into the carrier, you’ll notice that the portal you need to get the ball to is blocked by a metal gate. To raise this gate, all you need to do is hit the ball carrier again. As the ball you threw is already in the air, doing this will not change the direction the ball is traveling.
Completing this last puzzle will get you all of the Trial Keystones that you need to get inside the Ancestral Temple. Do note that the rewards for completing this puzzle will be on the platform above the place where the portal was.
“To the Night, What is the Night’s” Quest
With all 3 Trial Keystones in your possession, you can finally get inside the Ancestral Temple Ruins.
The gate to the temple ruins can be found on the southern side of the 4 bridges. When you enter the temple, make sure you are tracking the “To the Night, What is the Night’s” quest. Doing this will guide you to the exact location you need to go to progress this quest.
As you delve deeper into the ruins, you’ll eventually stumble upon another puzzle. This puzzle is very different from the first one, but it is probably as difficult as the first one.
Light Puzzle
The puzzle here will require you to line up a bunch of different lights. You can line up these lights using a set of levers found scattered around the puzzle area. Like before, you must use a Yumkasaur to complete this puzzle.
You can get to the first switch immediately after you switch over to the Yumkasaur. The platform you need to get to is shown in the image above.
Interacting with the switch will allow you to start moving a set of 2 lights. You can line up the lights using the Lock Mechanism option here, so as soon as the lights are in line with each other, quickly press the Lock Mechanism button to stop moving them.
After lining up these lights, you can get to the second switch by jumping onto the platform to your left. You will then need to go down and use the wooden platforms there to get to the second switch. The second switch will work the same as the first, and you will need to do the same thing to line up the lights.
For the last switch here, you will need to go to the opposite side of the puzzle area. So from the place where you operated the second switch, use the Yumkasaur’s grappling ability to get to the other side.
The final switch will be hidden behind a crumbling wall, which you can break using the Yumkasaur’s bomb-like projectile.
With all 3 pairs of lights lined up, the puzzle will be complete and you can progress through this area by activating the switch found near the door you got here from. Activating this switch will lower the water level, allowing you to jump down and make your way to the final part of this quest.
Will of the Wayob Boss Fight
The quest will end with a boss fight. Before you enter the final area, make sure to loot the Precious Chest outside it.
The “will of the Wayob” boss is a very hard-hitting boss that can deal devastating damage to you if it manages to hit you with any of its abilities. It also has a bunch of area-of-effect attacks that have very wide hit ranges.
That said, the boss doesn’t move at all during the full fight. So when you dodge one of its attacks, you can very easily land a counterblow. The fight can turn out to be pretty short if you manage to chain together a few attacks and stagger the boss.
Once the boss is defeated, the quest will be complete and you’ll get your rewards for completing it. A Precious Chest will also spawn at the spot where the boss you defeated was standing.
