Game Mode Limitations

Before we start off, it’s important to know that the Marvel Zombies mode currently has two main limitations.

The first limitation is that it only allows up to 4 players. If you have a group of more than 4 players, some of them will sadly need to sit this one out. That’s just how the mode is, at least currently!

The second limitation is that you can not use every Hero in the game. Currently, you can only pick from Punisher, Magik, Thor, Blade, and Jeff the Land Shark. Unlike normal Rivals matches, there can be duplicates of each Hero in the team.

These limitations aren’t huge dealbreakers to most players, but we thought they were worth mentioning as a heads up before diving into the game mode proper!

Gameplay Basics

Marvel Zombies difficulties | Marvel Rivals - Season 4.5

Now, starting up the Marvel Zombies game mode proper, the first thing you’ll see is the difficulty selection screen.

There are quite a lot of difficulties for this mode, starting with Normal as the easiest and Nightmare IV as the hardest. Higher difficulties unlock sequentially as you manage to fully complete a match in the previous difficulty.

As soon as you start a match, you’ll see a screen showing you the Khonshu’s Blessings shop. This allows you to buy upgrades using a special in-match currency known as Moon Power. The stronger an upgrade is, the more expensive it is!

You start every match with 10 Moon Power and you get more throughout the run.

These Blessings vary per character, as well. There’s a set of general blessings available for every Hero, in addition to the Hero-specific Blessings. Pick the right ones to strengthen yourself to deal with the horde!

Match Progression

Marvel Zombies regular gameplay | Marvel Rivals - Season 4.5

In Normal, Hard, and Extreme, you’ll need to progress by following the arrows throughout the map. You’ll reach checkpoints where you need to stop and just take out waves of zombies. Clearing them out will also allow you to purchase more of Khonshu’s Blessings.

Eventually, you’ll fight two bosses. The first is Zombie Namor at Wave 5, and the second is Queen of the Dead Scarlet Witch at the end of Wave 9.

Marvel Zombies Namor | Marvel Rivals - Season 4.5

Namor is fairly similar to how he plays a regular Hero. He will fly around, summoning a barrage of squid turrets.

Taking out the squids should be your number 1 priority here. Not only will this prevent them from overwhelming your team, but it will also weaken Namor’s shield. This will allow you to damage him directly so that you can take him out for once and for all!

Marvel Zombies Wanda, Queen of the Dead | Marvel Rivals - Season 4.5

As for Scarlet Witch, she’s essentially a stronger version of her usual self. Mainly, she will throw down Dark Seal force fields around the arena, which can stun you and your teammates. Make sure to avoid them!

She will also use her Chaos Control to deal damage to everyone near her, as well as using a form of Sorcery Surge to focus fire on a single target sporadically.

Wanda's crystals mechanic | Marvel Rivals - Season 4.5

When she’s low on health, she’ll also place crystals around herself and prepare for a powerful attack. Break the crystals before she finishes preparing, or you’ll get wiped out.

Manage to survive her onslaught of attacks and you’ll have successfully completed a match!

Marvel Zombies Nightmare difficulty | Marvel Rivals - Season 4.5

It’s also worth noting that Nightmare I to IV work a bit differently from the previous modes. Instead of having to progress through a linear map, your team will be put into an arena.

Essentially, Nightmare is a fully wave-based mode. Stand your ground and kill the zombies. Purchase upgrades after every wave to get stronger! Then, defeat the bosses on Wave 5 and 10. It’s more or less the same, overall!

Time to Power UP!

Prepare for Marvel Zombies | Marvel Rivals - Season 4.5

Aside from Khonshu’s Blessings, you can also strengthen yourself between matches by clicking on Prepare.

This allows you to see all of the playable characters and purchase Traits for them. Higher-level Traits will unlock as you play Marvel Zombies to gain EXP and level up your Mode Level.

Marvel Zombies Traits | Marvel Rivals - Season 4.5

You’ll need Trait Points to get these Traits, though! You’ll get more Trait Points as you level up in this mode. So, you just need to keep playing the mode to get stronger over time. You can even reset your Traits at any time if you wish to try a different setup.

Additionally, you can also get 3 Holy Ankhs for free by logging into the game daily. These can be used to revive fallen players in the middle of a match. It’s a good idea to pick them up to improve your chances.

If you wish, you can also purchase a set of 10 Holy Ankhs by spending 100 Units… although we wouldn’t recommend it, truth be told.

That’s really everything you need to know about the new zombie mode in Marvel Rivals! All that’s left is for you to get out there and slay those zombies to get various rewards.
