Death Must Die is a fairly unique survivors-like game, as it incorporates a loot system similar to games like Diablo and Path of Exile.
Unlike other games in the genre, your meta-progression is mostly gated by obtaining loot and not just by unlocking new upgrades.
In this guide, we’ll go over the most important aspects there are to loot in Death Must Die.
Complete Loot Guide
How To Get Loot
Loot is primarily obtained by defeating enemies during a stage, with much higher drop chances from Elites and Bosses.
Elites are enemies with golden crowns above them, and they are stronger variants of regular enemies.
Bosses, on the other hand, appear at set times during your run. They have large health bars that appear at the top of the screen, and they are massive in comparison to regular enemies.
They’re hard to miss, that’s for sure!
Once an item drops, you will most likely notice it thanks to the textbox with its name. Walk over the item and press E to pick it up.
You’ll get to keep your sweet loot at the end of your run, no matter how the run ends.
However, do keep in mind that the Stash in your camp has a limited inventory, so you should visit the Merchant and sell any unwanted loot every now and then.
Speaking of the Merchant, you can also buy loot with Gold at the shop.
The inventory rotates every now and then, so check the shop often.
As of this writing, loot in Death Must Die has 5 rarities. From the most common to the rarest, they are as follows:
Simple (Grey)
Common (White)
Rare (Blue)
Epic (Purple)
Mythic (Red)
Rarer loot is almost always better. It has more effects, and they’re stronger to boot!
Additionally, there are certain Unique items with extremely powerful game-changing effects.
Unique items have a chance to drop from any Elite and Boss you kill, and they usually are either Unique Epic items or Unique Mythic items.
Besides their powerful unique abilities, the other thing that sets Unique items apart is that you can only have one at a time. No double-dipping!
However, Unique Items will drop again if you sell or discard them, so don’t worry if you lose one and want to get it back.
As for how to get higher rarity items, there are two main factors affecting the rarity of loot that you get.
The first is your save’s playtime, with higher playtime granting much better chances to get rarer loot. This seems to reach its max once you have 10 hours of playtime logged on your save.
The second and biggest modifier for drop chances is your difficulty. You get drastically more rare loot at higher difficulties!
Lastly, let’s look at some of the most important stats to have on your equipment!
These will be general stats that are always good to have. After all, there are some niche stats such as Luck that you will generally avoid, but can make for extremely powerful builds when focused upon.
Nonetheless, the most important stats for general use are as follows:
Alteration Dice – Gives you extra Alteration Dies. You can use them to change the god that offers you a blessing on level up.
Reroll Dice – Gives you Reroll Dies. They allow you to reroll a god’s blessings on level up, without changing the god.
Banish Dice – Gives you Banish Dies. You can use these dies to banish specific offerings, banning them from showing up for the rest of the run.
Master Offers – Increases your chances to get Master-rarity Blessings on level up.
Adept Offers – Increases your chances to get Adept-rarity Blessings on level up.
Attack Speed – Raises how frequently you attack. In this game, Attack Speed is much better than Weapon Damage, keep that in mind.
As you can see, most of the best stats in general are the ones that allow you to manipulate which blessings you get from gods.
After all, it sucks to lose just because you didn’t get the gods and blessings you wanted for your build and playstyle.
Nonetheless, now you know the most important aspects of everything related to loot in Death Must Die!
Venezuelan gamer cursed by being interested by most games, resulting in a ridiculous backlog he’ll never be able to conquer. Been gaming for over two decades now! Few things exemplify his wide variety in gaming tastes as the fact that he’s a big fan of both Souls games and the Atelier series at the same time. Also a big fan of Yakuza/Like a Dragon, Deadly Premonition, Zero Escape, and Dead Rising, among others. Considers Lost Judgment and Sekiro to both be masterpieces.
