Death Must Die is an action-packed game that requires a lot of focus and can easily get those palms sweaty.

One way to succeed against the swarms of enemies it throws at you is to have your build fully optimised.

This guide aims to show you a quick build that will give you the best advantage and get you completing a full run.

Best Builds Guide

For this guide, we’ll be looking at several character and what blessings or gear work well for them.

Some of these builds vary in strength – however, all if successfully completed should allow you to see a run through to completion easily!

Nixi – Cursed Damage Build

Focus On Nixi in the game.

Gameplay in Death Must Die is subjective and of course everybody will relate more to one character’s skillset over another.

For the purpose of this build though, we’d recommend using the character Nixi. Armed with her two blades she’s quick and lethal on the map – but that’s not all.

This build will be focusing on the blessings offered up by the Goddess Mort. We’ve found Mort makes more of an appearance when playing as Nixi.

Focus On Mort The Goddess Of Death

Focus on Mort for the build

All of the blessings you’ll want to focus on for this run can only be acquired from Mort.

If your goal is to have a complete and successful run, we’d recommend restarting if you haven’t been able to gain any blessings from her by the time you reach the first boss fight with the Barons Left Hand.

Alternatively, make use of the alteration dice if you have them. These will let you choose an offering from an alternate God when they appear to give you blessings.

Pick Up Mayhem Blessing

This build is based around the idea of dealing Cursed damage towards your enemies.

The mayhem blessing is useful since it will let you stack permanent damage the more your enemies die from Cursed damage.

This means you’ll be dealing damage up to 1000 hit points as you level up your other blessings and stack more permanent damage from Cursed based kills.

Pick Up Ravens Of Pestilence & Soul Stealers

Ravens of pestilence in the game.

These two blessings can only be acquired from the Goddess of Death Mort. They compliment the Mayhem blessing due to dealing Cursed damage onto your enemies.

If offered you should pick up The Ravens of Pestilence first. They create an immediate perimeter around you which guarantees enemies will gain Cursed damage if they come close.

Soul Stealers will shoot phantoms from you upon successful damage hits. As they pass through enemies they also apply Cursed damage, but get this second if offered as its not guaranteed.

These two abilities, in conjunction with the Mayhem blessing, mean you’ll start stacking up that permanent damage pretty quick!

You’ll be dealing mighty blows against hordes of enemies in no time.

Merris – Lightning Bolt Build

Lightning Bolt Build with Merris

This build focuses on the Merris character, a more ranged hero who throws balls of magic. Her attacks can be difficult to aim manually, so we’d recommend using the auto-toggle attack button to automatically launch attacks at the nearest enemies.

This build puts the emphasis on movement. Done successfully, you’ll be able to go through most of your run keeping your basic attacks to the minimum.

This will keep enemies at bay and gives you more time for exploration.

Focus On Lightning Bolt

The lightning bolt in Death Must Die

This is the blessing you should focus on for this build. This is an excellent attack blessing that will rain down lightning on any enemies that enter your on-screen perimeter.

You’ll acquire it from Leigong, the God of Lightning.

You’ll want to keep moving so more enemies come into your perimeter. As you level this up, your lightning strike will become more powerful and abundant. You’ll start taking down enemies before they even reach you!

Focus On Haste

Haste in Death Must Die

Since  this build emphasises movement and attacking enemies from afar, you’ll need Haste to stay one step ahead of them.

This blessing will increase your overall speed. As you stack this up you’ll be able to zip about the map dodging enemies, your lightning bolt keeping enemies at bay from a distance.

Kront – Onyx Dragon Build

Onyx Dragon Runestone

This build makes use of the barbarian character Kront and will require The Onyx Dragon Runestone of Exile.

This is a powerful build that will summon a large green dragon that will serve as your companion throughout the run.

The dragon will apply corrosion damage to enemies, which is great against bosses with larger than average health bars.

SIDE NOTE: Here’s a guide which shows you how to equip 2 Onyx Dragon items in one character!

Focus On Cursed Damage

Dragon dealing damage

Since your damage deals corrosion damage to enemies from afar, this complements well with any blessing from Mort that will also deal cumulative cursed damage.

The best way to do this is by going down the Soul Stealers and Mayhem route from the Nixi build.

Soul stealers route

In combination with your dragon, you’ll find yourself stacking up a lot of long term damage against enemies!

That’s it for the build! If you’ve followed along with this method, then you should be ready to enter the game and blast through a successful run to completion.
