Season 10 for New World: Aeternum changed the meta a lot by allowing a lot of broken builds, with high DPS being the best it’s been in a while.
It’s now possible to dish out some truly ridiculous damage, thanks to the new Perks and some of the changed gear! Fans of big damage numbers, we’re sure you’re all happy with this season.
In this guide, we’ll give you details on what we consider to be one of the best DPS builds currently in the game.
Best Broken DPS Build in Season 10 | New World: Aeternum
Weapon Combination – Hatchet + Fire Staff

For this build, we’ll be using the Hatchet exclusively. However, we’ll pair with the Fire Staff, as we’ll want to have the Inferno Artifact to maximize damage. We’ll talk more about that when we go over the gear.
For now, though, let’s talk about Attributes! The Hatchet scales equally with both STR and DEX, so here’s our recommended spread for maximizing its damage output:
- STR – 215
- DEX – 260
- INT – 5
- FOC – 5
- CON – 50
With this spread, you’ll also want to use the Banana Bread food item. It will give you 40 more STR, increasing your damage output and also helping you reach the 250 STR breakpoint. It’ll also nearly equalize your STR and DEX for an even 50/50 split!

As for the Skills, you only really need to focus on the Hatchet Skill Tree. The image above shows you our recommended Skill Tree setup for this build.
Your main Skill to use for combat here will be Rending Throw. It has good damage on its own and a short cooldown. Most importantly, though, it also applies a 20% Rend effect to your target for 10 seconds. That lowers their defenses, making them take even more damage!
Your game plan essentially is to use Berserk as soon as possible for its buffs when you start combat. Then use Rending Throw, followed by a mix of light attacks and Raging Torrent.
For the Fire Staff… you can safely ignore its Skill Tree entirely, as you won’t be using it. Again, the Fire Staff here is just for the passive Perk from the Inferno. You won’t actively use the Fire Staff.
With that done, let’s look at what type of gear you want for this build.
Gear Recommendations
Weapons and Heartrune

When it comes to your weapons, the main thing you want to get is the Inferno. This Artifact tier Fire Staff drops as a reward from the Empyrean Forge Mutated Expedition in the Great Cleave.
The Inferno’s unique Perk, Inner Power, is what makes it so important. This passive perk increases your damage by 15% when attacking enemies within 15 meters. The best part is that the effect applies to your Hatchet, as well!
This essentially means that you have a 15% damage boost that is up at almost all times. It’s a substantial bonus, especially when it just requires you to have the Inferno equipped.

For your Hatchet, pretty much any Legendary Tier Hatchet will do. However, we do recommend finding one that has 2 Offense Charm sockets and 1 Gem socket. It’ll give you the best potential for maximizing damage.

Lastly, for your Heartrune, we recommend the Phantom Blades. It can deal a pretty large burst of damage, so it works great for the DPS role that this build is going for.
Other Artifacts and Gear

When it comes to gear, the main thing you want to get is the Nimble Coat Artifact. This chestwear Artifact appears randomly in the PvP Rewards Track.
Its unique perk is Highly Refreshing. It’s a simple one, as all it does is reduce your max cooldowns by 8%. But since your gameplan relies heavily on basically spamming Rending Throw, this is a huge buff!
That aside, you don’t really have any must-have Artifacts. You can use pretty much anything you want, as long as you focus on staying in the Light weight category.

However, we do recommend getting the Old Crown Artifact if possible. That one can also appear randomly on the PVP Rewards Track, and it grants +6 to all of your Attributes.
Ultimately, though, the Perks and Gems you use will be much more important. So, let’s talk about them!
Perks and Gems

When it comes to Perks and Gems, we’ll be focusing mainly on things that increase your DPS. That means, raw damage increases and cooldown reductions are your most important bonuses.
Here’s a list of the Perks and Gems you’ll want on your build, in order from highest priority to lowest priority:
- Keen Berserk II – 1 Stack, ideally on armor.
- Compounding Torrent II – 1 Stack, ideally on your Hatchet.
- Slash Harnessing II – As many stacks as possible.
- Sacrificial Empowerment II – At least 2 Stacks, ideally all 5.
- Prolonged Favor II – At least 3 Stacks, ideally all 5. However, Sacrificial Empowerment II is more important if you’re limited.
- Skilled Enchantment II – As many stacks as possible.
- Keenly Jagged II – 1 Stack on upgraded Inferno.
- Keenly Empowered – 1 Stack on upgraded Inferno.
- Keenly Fortified II – 1 Stack.
- Shirking Fortification II – As many stacks as possible.
- Enchanted Ward II – 5 Stacks.
- Refreshment II – 1 Stack on Earrings.
- Nimble II – 1 Stack on Earrings.
- End II – 1 Stack on Hatchet.
- Penetrating IV – 1 Stack on Hatchet.
- Elemental Ward IV – 1 Stack on Amulet.
- Slash Damage II – 1 Stack on Ring.
So there you have it, now you know what you need to look for to make the best broken DPS build possible in New World: Aeternum Season 10. It’s going to be a grind to get all the right perks, not gonna lie, but it’ll be worth it!
Want a different potential build? Well, we also have a one-shot Bow build for you! It has less survivability and sustained damage, but has incredibly high burst damage potential instead.
