Knowing what animals you should tame in Ark Survival Ascended is very helpful, and can help you get started in the game. In this article, we will be looking at the best animals for you to tame first and how their animals can help you through your playthrough.

The Best Animals to Tame First

In Ark Survival Ascended, you want to be taming animals that are either easy to tame or provide a lot of early utility.

Equus

Equus

The Equus in Ark Survival Ascended is great for players starting out. It can be tamed very early, as you only need to be a minimum of level 10.

The Equus is the prehistoric version of a modern-day horse. The uses of an Equus in Ark Survival Ascended are also very similar to a modern-day horse.

Stamina is one of the strongest traits of the Equus. It is a great mount in the early game for hunting and just traveling around the map.

It is very easy to tame with just some carrots. Other fruits such as berries can also do the job if you don’t have carrots.

Dodo

Dodo

The Dodo bird is going to be one of the first animals you encounter in the world of Ark Survival Ascended. It is great for the early game, and many players will use it as an early source of food and hides.

You can also choose to tame the Dodo. The Dodo will very frequently lay eggs and these eggs can be very useful early on. The main reason why the Dodo bird makes this list is because of them being very common, and being very easy to tame.

Raptors

Raptor

Compared to the other animals on this list, The Raptor is a bit harder to tame. It still isn’t extremely difficult and with the right tools, you can tame them very early on. The Raptors are great early on due to their high speed and combat prowess.

Raptors can usually be found in small packs. Approaching them in a pack can be a bit difficult, so the best approach is to isolate them and try to bait them out. A single Raptor is relatively easy to take care of and a few attacks will incapacitate it, allowing you to tame it.

Using a Raptor can carry you through the early game and even help you fight other medium-sized creatures in the game.

Moschops

Moschops

Moschops are one of the best, if not the best harvesters in the early game. They can help you harvest valuable early game materials such as fiber and berries. The best thing about Moschops in Ark Survival Ascended is how easy they are to tame.

You can tame a Moschop by just going up to it and feeding it the food it desires. Having multiple of these at the same time will make your very easy early on.

Triceratops

Triceratops

One of the most iconic dinosaurs, The Triceratops in Ark Survival Ascended is a very good early-game defensive animal to have. Alongside its defense capabilities, the Triceratops can also help you gather materials such as wood.

The Triceratops can be a bit tanky, but it isn’t hard to tame. By hitting its legs and avoiding its head, you can slowly but surely incapacitate the Triceratops.

This guide should help you get started in Ark Survival Ascended and help you transition later into the game. There are hundreds of different animals in the game and the ones we mentioned are just a few.
