There are 20 playable characters in Granblue Fantasy Relink. All of them play differently and have different abilities. Each of them serves different purposes in your party, but which character should you main?
The amount of resources you have is limited. You have to choose what characters to level up. That being said, what character should you prioritize?
Which Character to Choose as Main
The character we recommend to choose as your main in Granblue Fantasy Relink is Io. She is easy to learn and does decently in all combat situations. It doesn’t matter if you’re fighting bosses or regular enemies, Io is a blast.
It is important to remember that this pick is subjective. Everyone likes to play as different characters depending on their tastes.
If you like more melee-based characters, then you likely will not agree with this pick. Always remember, the best character is the one you enjoy the most!
That being said, let’s move on to discussing what makes Io a great option to consider for your main character. If you want to learn more about what your first unlock should be, check out this article.
Io
Io is a young spellcaster character who uses her staff to perform magic spells. These spells make up the crux of her playstyle. You attack your enemies from a range while also using some of your support skills to heal your party.
Using Io Effectively
Primarily, Io is an attack-based character. She has two main combat skills. Pressing Square makes her shoot balls of magic. You can charge this to do more damage. Using these basic attacks will also grant you her special move of the Mystic Vortex Orb.
Her other combat ability is the Triangle attack, which is an area-of-effect attack. It attacks multiple foes in a wide area. The amount of Orbs you hold at any given point is important. It dictates how much you can charge this ability. At maximum charge, she can do a massive damage-dealing attack.
Io’s Skills
Io has 5 usable skills. They are listed below:
Healing Winds: Simply heals all party members in an area slowly over time.
Concentration: This boosts Io’s own abilities. It grants Stout Heart and speeds up the charge speed of the Stargaze.
Lightning: This casts lightning in an area that applies the “Paralysis” status on any enemies it hits.
Freeze: Apply water element-based damage using a spell that inflicts ATK.
Fire: Apply burn on enemies in an area, reducing the DEF on any enemies it hits.
Io’s special and unique ability is the nuke spell called Stargaze which is incredibly powerful when fully charged and does very high damage. To charge it up to the maximum level of 4, you will need Mystic Vortex Orbs.
Mystic Vortex Orbs are an important mechanic as part of Io’s arsenal. Using her skills and hitting enemies with fully charged attacks increases the amount of Orbs she has. Making effective use of this ability makes Io perform her best.
The one thing that makes Io unique and invaluable is her multi-elemental abilities. This makes her an excellent all-rounder, which is great for newer players. She is Water-element based herself, but she’s not limited to that.
Through her skills, Io can inflict different element-based damage to enemies. This allows you to expose different enemies’ weaknesses to do more damage. You can use her area of effect abilities to absolutely destroy a large number of enemies at once.
Io’s Strategy
To make the best possible use of Io, you should be making use of all of her skills in unison. Attack enemies from further away to inflict damage on them. While doing this from safety, you charge your abilities up.
This will allow you to speed your charge rate up. At this point, you should spam whatever skill is most useful for your specific scenario. Soon, you will have enough orbs to charge your stargaze. Use your Stargaze to nuke your opponents.
With all this in mind, it’s easy to recommend Io as a potential main in Granblue Fantasy Relink. When used correctly, you can use her to annihilate your foes. All this, plus the ability to heal your party makes her an invaluable addition to any team.
