Granblue Fantasy Relink features a surprisingly deep combat system. Combat can be difficult too, requiring effort to complete battles and defeat enemies. There are a few ways to optimize your combat and make it easier though, thankfully.
We have organized three tips that will make your combat encounters end faster and in your favor.
Ultimate Combat Guide
We are going to be discussing three different tips today that will help you fight enemies faster and more effectively. These tips are using launchers, learning perfect dodging and blocking, and canceling combos for additional benefit.
The game doesn’t make these features of the combat clear, so hopefully, this guide clears up some potential confusion. Check out our other Granblue Fantasy Relink article about progression and mechanics tips if you need it.
1. Launchers:
Every character in Granblue Fantasy Relink comes with a launcher move. These are moves that launch the enemy high up in the air, with you following alongside. This has many advantages.
For one, you can pour massive damage into an enemy while they’re in the air and can not attack you back or escape the attack. By doing a longer combo, you can delete a pretty sizable chunk of your enemy’s health bars.
Another advantage is regarding crowd control. In Granblue Fantasy Relink, you can often be in trouble surrounded by enemies all around you. By launching one or two enemies at a time and fighting them in the air, you can focus on a few enemies while being safe from the other ones on the ground.
Additionally, enemies take a couple of seconds of recovery before they get up after being hit by a launcher. This lets you reduce the amount of enemies actively attacking you, making combat much easier.
2. Perfect Dodges and Blocks:
In Granblue Fantasy Relink, you have the standard defensive options of dodging and blocking. Both of these actions have a “Perfect” variant though, which requires a lot more precise timing to execute. These can be extremely useful, so you should practice their timing as needed.
Whenever you execute a perfect dodge, you receive a few seconds of invincibility. These few seconds allow you to play a lot more aggressively and pull out your big guns to do huge amounts of damage.
Similarly, perfect blocking has its benefits too. If you perfectly block, or parry, any enemy’s moves, all damage is mitigated. This means you take 0 guard damage as well. On top of this, you inflict some stun damage on the enemy whose attack you just parried too.
Perfect guards doing stun damage also means that Link Attacks can be used a lot more. Link Attacks require you to break enemies’ stun gauges before you can use them. By making frequent use of perfect guards, you will be able to make use of Link Time a lot more as well.
It seems that the window for a perfect dodge is a lot easier than the window for a perfect block. This might make you want to just dodge and never block, but that is not the best idea. The reason that a perfect block is harder is that it can be a lot more useful due to the Link Attack bonus.
Both of them have their advantages and should be used according to the situation. While the timings can be a bit tricky to get acclimated to, you can learn them with just a little practice. This will be very helpful in the long term.
3. Combo Canceling:
Every character in Granblue Fantasy Relink has a basic combo. This is simply executed by pressing their attack button over and over. The characters will all do a few attacks which ends with a combo finisher.
There are two different ways to cancel this, and they both have different applications that you can use to your advantage. These techniques can be a little unintuitive to learn, but it is very worth it.
When doing a combo, by dodging at any time you can cancel the combo animation. This does not reset your position in the combo that you were doing. This means that if you perform your basic combo until just before the finisher before dodging, pressing the attack button immediately after will perform the finisher.
For instance, if you are attacking a shielded enemy with your combo, you can dodge right before the finisher to reposition to his side and do more damage that way.
The best way to figure this out is to try it yourself. There are a few different advantages to this. One of them is that you can reposition yourself mid-combo to dodge an attack or move around an enemy with a shield. These micro-adjustments through dodging can allow you to do more with your combo finisher.
You can also cancel your combo by just blocking. This works in the opposite way to a dodge cancel, as it will reset your combo entirely. This also comes with its own uses. If a particular part of your combo string is useful you can just spam that.
For example, if the second hit of a combo string is particularly useful, you can do the following inputs: Attack > Attack > Block > Attack > Attack > Block. This allows you to just repeat the first two hits of the string and can be a good way to do some faster damage.
This was it for our ultimate combat tips in Granblue Fantasy Relink. By adding these to your playstyle, you can increase your combat efficiency. As a bonus, it can make combat more fun as well!
