The story campaign for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is finally here. Unfortunately, it was met with negative reception due to a handful of caveats.
For starters, you can’t pause the game at any given point in time. There’s also an always-online requirement similar to that of Battlefield 6. To top it all off, the game will kick you if you remain idle for too long.
Unsurprisingly, this has led to a lot of player sentiments, with the majority of the community agreeing that the campaign is no doubt terrible.
Unlike the campaigns in previous Call of Duty games, this is actually the first time that you can’t pause a campaign at all. This means that if you don’t want your waste your current progress, you have to either reach a checkpoint or complete your current mission.

A lot of players even labeled the campaign as “just like Warzone,” which is an insult that reflects how sloppy and poorly done the campaign was.
To make matters worse, the lack of a progression save means that if a new update drops while you’re in the middle of a mission, you will get kicked out.
And once you’re kicked out, you’ll then have to start that same mission all over again. Here’s a clip from ModernWarzone that shows the exact issue:
Black Ops 7’s Campaign Can’t Be Paused and Requires You to Be Always Online
With how things are going with Black Ops 7’s campaigns, players are convinced that it was made primarily for a 4-player squad.
Even if you decide to play it solo, you still have to go through the matchmaking and lobby-making process, which doesn’t really make sense from a solo player’s perspective.
You don’t even get AI teammates at all! The rest of your squad will talk in cutscenes, but you will be left alone once the campaign starts. They just show up in the cutscenes, nothing more.
This understandably comes as a shock for a lot of fans who were eagerly waiting for the game, only for its campaign to come out in such a messy situation.

With tons of complaints from players, Treyarch might hopefully come up with a workaround later on. However, you might not want to get your hopes up as Black Ops 7’s online integration and the inclusion of Worlds Collide might just prevent that from happening.
It’s nice to know that the game has a pretty modest PC requirement, but the issue with its story campaign isn’t something that players can just ignore.
While the campaign being made for multiplayer is understandable, Treyarch should have at least put a bit more effort into tailoring the experience for solo players as well.
