Andrew Gower of Runescape fame is back with his new MMORPG Brighter Shores, and we’re back with a new ultimate beginners guide to help you get into the game.
Brighter Shores is a pretty unique MMORPG, clearly drawing inspiration from Gower’s past work. While the game itself is made to be pretty easy for even the most casual of players to get into, there are still some key things you should know before diving in. That’s where we come in!
In this ultimate beginner guide, we’ll tell you about the main things you should know when starting out in Brighter Shores.
Early Game Guide
Understand the Episodic Structure
One of the first things you should understand about Brighter Shores is its “Episodes” structure. Every region in the game, such as the starting Hopeport, is called an Episode in-game.
Each Episode also has its own set of Professions that you can practice, such as Hopeport allowing you to take on the Guard combat Profession or the Fisher Profession for gathering, for example. Your combat equipment is also tied to every combat Profession. That essentially just means you can’t use your Episode 1 gear in Episode 2.
While this is all very controversial, you have to understand that this doesn’t mean that your progress gets reset. You can come back and forth between Episodes at will, so you never really lose anything. Plus, you can carry items such as consumables and materials between Episodes. Money is also shared between all Episodes! There’s more interplay between the Episodes than most players first assume.
It’s also important to know that “Episode” is a bit of a misnomer. They are simply different regions and you can go through them in any order once they open up. It’s not at all required to max out Episode 2 (Hopeforest) before you even visit Episode 4 (Crenopolis), for example!
Get the Quartermaster Spell
Early on in the game, you’ll be able to visit the Quartermaster near the Training Ground in Hopeport. He will teach you the extremely useful Quartermasterspell, which you want to get as soon as possible.
The Quartermaster spell allows you to instantly teleport gear between your Backpack and Hopeport Bank. Considering you’re bound to obtain way more loot than you can possibly carry, this is one of the most useful spells in the entire game!
Use Your Senses and Explore
This is a simple but pretty important tip: make sure to see everything there is to see in every room. You can press CTRL + S to use your Senses and reveal nearby interactable in a room. Investigating them will also mark them for future reference on your map. It’s absolutely vital to explore every room to its fullest extent so that you have no trouble finding materials later on!
Level Up Multiple Professions
Another important part of the early game progression is to make sure that you level up multiple Professions, and don’t focus on just one. This will allow you to have access to more mechanics and it’ll also make it infinitely easier to hit Total Level milestones.
If you’re unaware, all of your Profession levels are added up to determine your Total Level. Some quests require you to have specific Total Levels, such as an early Main Story quest in Episode 1 which requires Level 60. Trying to get to Total Level 60 while focusing on just one or two Profession would take way too long, honestly.
That said, there are definitely some Professions that you should prioritize over others, such as Chef and Alchemist. If you want to know more, check out our article about the best Professions in the game. Also, have patience with the leveling process. Brighter Shores can definitely be a grindy game!
Follow the Main Story
Last but not least, it’s important to focus on the Main Story Quests as much as possible as a beginner. Oftentimes, beginners make the mistake of just staying in Episode 1 grinding away and leveling their Profession levels. It is important to level up as many Professions as possible, sure! After all, we said as much in in our previous section. However, you should also complete Main Story Quests as soon as they become available
These important quests will unlock new mechanics, areas, and Episodes as you progress through them. Not only does this keep things fresh, but it also helps you better decide what content you actually wish to focus on!
