Age of Mythology Retold: Loki Build Order Guide

Use Loki to create chaos!

Loki is 1 of the 4 major gods available to the Norse in Age of Mythology Retold. He is an extremely powerful god, but of course, to get the best out of him, it is very important to know how to play him.

To help you master Loki, we will be looking at an ideal build order for him that should help you ease through the Archaic Age and start extremely strong in the Classical Age.

Loki Build Order Guide

Building Structures as the Norse

When playing with Loki, you’ll always start the game with 3 Gatherers. So as soon as you load into the game, send 2 of your Gatherers straight to Food. Use the last Gatherer to build 2 Ox Carts, one for Gold and the other for Wood. Once he is done making the Ox Carts, send the Gatherer to Wood.

The first Villager that you will want to train will be a Dwarf. Dwarves are much better than Gatherers at collecting Gold, so you will almost always want to use a Dwarf to collect gold. Send the Dwarf you train straight to Gold.

Train 2 more Gatherers after the Dwarf and send them straight to Food. Once that is done, train another Dwarf for Gold. Your next 2 villagers will again be Gatherers. Send one of these Gatherers to Food, and the other to Gold. While we did mention earlier that Dwarves are better at getting Gold, training Dwarves also costs gold. You will want to train a Gatherer instead of a Dwarf here because training a Gatherer will cost you Food instead of Gold.

After those 2 Gatherers, train another Dwarf for Gold, and 2 more Gatherers for Food. The last villager that you will want to train in the Archaic Age will be a Gatherer for Wood. Also when the last Gatherer spawns, take your single Gatherer on Gold and move him to Wood.

So at this point, you will have 7 Gatherers on Food, 3 Gatherers on Wood, and 3 Dwarves on Gold. You won’t need any more Villagers for the Archaic Age, so the next thing that you will want to do is advance to the Classical Age

Advancing to the Classical Age

Advancing to the Classical Age will require you to have a Temple and 400 Food. You should have enough resources to build the Temple by the time your last Villager in the Archaic Age spawns. 400 Food will also not be an issue as the 7 Villagers on Food will have gathered enough Food for the advancement. If you are lacking in any resource, take some Villagers off the resources you have enough of and put them on the ones you lack.

While you are in the Archaic Age, make sure you also build a House to increase your maximum Population. Try to build this House as soon as you can, as you will need it in the Classical Age. The Ideal time to build the House will be right at the beginning.

The 2 Minor gods you get to choose from when advancing

When advancing to the Classical Age, you will need to choose one minor god to go with. The minor god options available to the Norse here are Forseti and Heimdall. Both of these gods are pretty good options, and the one you will want to go with will depend on what the game state is. Forseti favors a more defensive setup, and Heimdall a more aggressive one.

Classical Age Approach

Workers collecting resources

Your approach in the Classical Age will ultimately come down to how you want to play. The Norse generally favor a more aggressive playstyle and Loki even more so, as a lot of his abilities are based on aggressiveness. All that said, every game in Age of Mythology Retold is different, and something that works for you in one game might not be the best play in the next.

Also, make sure you switch your Villagers around and assign them to resources you need more of. Food is the most important resource in the Archaic Age, and while it is still important in the Classical Age, it might not be the most important one for you anymore.

Combat is also the only way in which you can earn Favor as the Norse. You can learn more about earning Favor in this game through our How to get Favor guide.
