If you wish to play as any of the Greek Major Gods (Hades, Zeus, or Poseidon) in Age of Mythology: Retold but can’t decide on which one, our general-use build order should help.

This build order for the Greeks should work well with any combination of Major and Minor gods. It’s a solid catch-all that you can rely on, even if it’s not 100% optimized for the needs of more specific combinations!

If that sounds useful to you, read on and we’ll give you our standard opener build order for Greek gods.

Greek Build Order Guide (Hades, Zeus & Poseidon)

Starting a match

This build order we’ll cover for the Greek gods in Age of Mythology: Retold is pretty general, but it should work well for Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon. Just keep in mind it’s not optimized for any particular Major or Minor God.

With that said, you’ll want to set 3 of your Civilians to build a Granary and hunt for Food as soon as you start. The remaining Civilian should build a Lumber Camp and start gathering Wood instead. After that, get 2 more Civilians and have them build and use a Gold Mine.

Progressing through Antique Age

In summary, you will have 3 Civilians on Food, 2 on Gold, and 1 on Wood. Get more Civilians and keep assigning them to obtain Food until you have 9 Civilians on Food. Any Civilians you get after having 9 on Food should go to Gold instead. Maintain this setup until you amass 150 Wood and 150 Gold.

Advancing to the Classical Age

Temple Built

As soon as you get the 150 Wood and 150 Gold, take one of your Civilians from the Gold Mine and instruct them to build the Temple. Then, once the Temple is completed, instruct that same Civilian to build a House. Continue getting new Civilians to work on Gold until you have a total Population of 16.

Choosing Minor God

In summary, you should now have the Temple built and the following Civilian distribution: 9 Food, 5 Gold, and 1 Wood. Use the Temple to start advancing by choosing any Minor God you wish and you’re all done! You’ll advance to the Classical Age, so you should try to conquer a nearby Settlement to get your second Town Center as well.

That’s all you need to know for a standard opener build order that works for all Greek Major Gods in Age of Mythology: Retold, whether you pick Hades, Zeus, or Poseidon. Due to how many variables there are, your build order after the Classical Age will vary greatly depending on enemy civilizations and your specific Gods. Nonetheless, this is a fantastic start for Greeks!
