Isis is one of the hardest Major Gods to play in Age of Mythology: Retold, but our standard opener build order will help you get started with her.

Isis focuses primarily on economy and technology. She can gain resources faster and can also progress through research much faster. However, she has no direct boons for combat so the start of each match can be a challenge. On the other hand, her powerful boons do make it easy to snowball later in the game!

In this guide, we’ll give you a standard opener build order that you can use whenever you pick Isis as your Major God in Age of Mythology: Retold.

To start the build order for Isis in Age of Mythology: Retold, you want to set your initial 3 Civilians to hunt for Food. At the same time, use your Priest to lay down as many Obelisks as possible around the map. They provide a huge visibility boon early in the game, even if they are somewhat obsolete once you advance to the Classical Age.

For your next 3 Civilians, send two of them to build a Mining Camp and use a Gold Mine. The third Civilian should build a Monument. Once they finish building the Monument, assign them to the Gold Mine as well. Keep collecting Gold until you reach 150 Gold, then build a Temple right away.

Isis used Prosperity

As you build the Temple, get 5 new Civilians. Have 4 of them set to hunt for Food and 1 to gather Wood. All other new Civilians at this point should be set to get Gold until you start advancing. With this build order, you should be able to start advancing before 4:00. We recommend Bast as your Minor God, but Anubis is a good choice as well if you’re able to play more aggressively.

While advancing, research Pickaxe (45 Food, 108 Wood) and Flood of the Nile (135 Gold, 5 Favor). At the same time, you should cast Isis’ Prosperity God Power and set your Civilians to build a second Monument. Use your Pharaoh to Empower the Mining Camp while Prosperity is active, as well.

Advancing to the Classical Age

Capturing Settlement

Once you’re almost finished advancing, you want to consider moving to a nearby Settlement to establish your second Town Center. If possible, it’s a good idea to get 2 extra Priests for this. Use your Pharaoh, Priests, Myth Unit, and Civilians to try to take over the Settlement. Remember that Town Centers require 550 Gold in Age of Mythology: Retold, as well.

However, we advise against attempting to establish the second Town Center depending on which other Civilization you are facing. Atlantean civilizations and Zeus are particularly risky to deal with. Pick your battles carefully at this point. If you can’t get the Town Center, build a Village Center instead. It’s slower, but you have to make do sometimes!

Sacred Cats

Either way, start researching Sacred Cats as soon as possible if you choose Bast. Do so and you should now be set with the standard opener build order for Isis in Age of Mythology: Retold. As usual, everything you do from this point on will greatly depend on what kind of Civilizations you’re dealing with and there’s no “one-size-fits-all all” build order after the start of the Classical Age.

Venezuelan gamer cursed by being interested by most games, resulting in a ridiculous backlog he’ll never be able to conquer. Been gaming for over two decades now! Few things exemplify his wide variety in gaming tastes as the fact that he’s a big fan of both Souls games and the Atelier series at the same time. Also a big fan of Yakuza/Like a Dragon, Deadly Premonition, Zero Escape, and Dead Rising, among others. Considers Lost Judgment and Sekiro to both be masterpieces.
