Path of Exile – How To Release / Fire Workers

Hiring workers and using their expertise for work is a big part of the league mechanic in Path of Exile. The work your workers do is what generates resources, be it farming, mining, smelting, or shipping.

Throughout your time in Kingsmarch, you will constantly need to hire workers and put them to work. Alongside that though, you will occasionally need to release workers from your service. While the game does a good job of telling you how you can hire workers, it doesn’t tell you how to release them.

Fortunately for you, we will be looking at exactly what you need to do to release workers in Path of Exile.

How To Release / Fire Workers

To release/fire workers in this game, you will need to make your way to Raulf the Recruiter. He is the same person you will need to go to if you want to hire workers.

Once you are in front of him, interact with him and select the Town Recruitment option.

From here, you will be able to see all of the workers that are currently in your service. The left side of the screen will show the workers you can hire, and the right will show the workers you currently have.

To release a worker, all you need to do is click on the red icon with the door on it. You will find this icon on the top right side of each worker’s card. The image above also points towards the icon you need to click on.

Clicking on that icon will then show you a warning asking you to confirm if you want to release the worker. Select OK to proceed. Once that is done, the worker will permanently be out of your service.

Note: You can only release workers who are Idle and not assigned to any kind of work. If you want to release a worker who is assigned to some work, you will need to free them up and make them Idle.

Why Release Workers

A big reason why you would want to release workers is to free up space. There is a maximum limit to how many workers you can have in your service at a time, and releasing workers is a good way to free up space for new workers.

Every worker in Path of Exile specializes in a certain type of work. The image above highlights 2 different icons on the cards of 2 different workers. The pickaxe icon with the number 1 beside it indicates a specialty in mining, and the ship icon with 2 beside it lets you know that the worker specializes in shipping. So if you have too many workers that specialize in one kind of work, you might want to release some and hire workers that specialize in some other work.

Additionally, workers also have a level attached to them. As you go later into the game, you will want to hire more higher-level workers. Releasing low-level workers will free up space for the new workers you want to hire.
