Released during the 1.0 version of Wuthering Waves, Yuanwu is an Electro element resonator that can slot into your team as your sub-DPS. When he came out, Yuanwu was considered one of the weakest sub-DPS options in Wuthering Waves. Even Yinlin, who was released alongside Yuanwu massively outperformed him as a sub-DPS character.
All that said, the recently released 1.1 version of Wuthering Waves brought a lot of changes to the game, including the addition of a new resonator that has had a huge impact on the meta. So, with those changes in mind, how good is Yuanwu now?
Is Yuanwu Any Good?
With the release of version 1.1, Yuanwu went from one of the worst sub-DPS characters to one of the best. The reason for this is the release of Jinhzi, the game’s latest 5-star character. Jihnsi is a main DPS character, and Yuanwu has one of the best kits to help Jihnzi maximize her damage. So, what makes them so good together?
Jihnsi relies heavily on her forte circuit energy “Incansendence” to deal damage. You can gain stacks for her forte circuit energy using attribute damage and coordinated attacks. A character like Yuanwu can help with both, and using both characters together is the fastest way to build Incansendence in Wuthering Waves.
Yuanwu’s Resonance Skill summons a Thunder Wedge that stays on the field even when Yuanwu switches places with another character. This can be seen in the image above. Once you place the Thunder Wedge, any damage dealt within its range will deal additional coordinated damage. So if you deal damage with Jihnsi, you will deal some extra coordinated damage and this will help you get Incansendence.
Besides that, Yuanwu is an electric attribute resonator, which can also help build Incansendence. While Yuanwu is extremely strong when paired with Jihnzi, he becomes somewhat mediocre when Jihnzi is not on your team. If you still want to use him even when you don’t have Jihnsi, Calcharo is a decent alternative to Jihnsi.
Ideal Team
When building your team with Yuanwu, you will of course want Jinhsi as your main DPS character. You can then round out your team with a support character. A possible team that you can go with is:
Jihnsi – Main DPS
Yuanwu – Sub-DPS
Verina – Support
Verina is currently the best support in the game, making her the perfect character to round out your team. If you don’t have Verina, you can go for someone like Baizhi. Most players will have Baizhi unlocked already, making her a good option for free-to-play players.
While Jihnsi is the best DPS option, there are other options that you can go for. They might not be as good as Jihnsi, but they can do the job for you. Calcharo is the second best DPS option to go for if you don’t have Jihnsi, as Calcharo is an Electric attribute resonator, so he will synergize pretty well with Yuanwu.
For a free-to-play option, Rover can do a decent enough job for you. As he is the game’s main character, all players will have access to him. To fully utilize Rover’s kit, make sure you check out our complete Rover guide.
